+1 I want to see what this thing looks like in real life rather than in those dark product pics. One big concern for me is the location of the speakers. I may be one of the few who uses notebook speakers, but I hate when they're off center. I have a D630 that my company gave me and its offset speakers are awful.

The slideshow gave little new about the notebooks themselves and more on accessories. Good to know they are on track for Mid-August launch. The 'commanility' slide seems a bit misleading; it looks like only D series power adapters are compatible with the E series, not D series docks.

    Edit: Some more info:

One change that's different from the March images is that they added back the screen hinge.

I don't know about the whole 'inverted motherboard' feature, but the E5500/5400 slide shows the fan/heatsink exiting the notebook at the lower rear of the notebook - meaning the fan is most likely still sucking air from the bottom. Maybe the E6500/6400 series is different in this regard, can't tell from the pictures.

750 nits brightness from the ATG screen!? That is a torch; if it's not LED-based, battery life on that puppy will suffer.

Correct. Its my understanding that the d series chargers are compatable. The d series slim charger will not do the quick charge just ike the d series today. docks for e series are based on a pci-e connector. d series is based on pci. Intel chipsets killed off pci with this latest refresh.

Better to buy Dell Latitude E or HP Elitebook 6930p? Same business notebook, but HP is more stylish. Check here for complete pics:

If Dell Latitude E will be somewhere similar to the presentation then I'll probably pass! E concept was a lot better, stylish. However, this new E is actually D being "thinned". It's time for business NB to get stylish and cool.

Ok, so now we know about as much as we did in february :)

The E6400 still looks like it's going to be my next laptop, but it would be nice with more specific information.

Anyone care to guess if the powered eSATA port can power a 3.5" hdd? Would be nice, but I'm guessing no.

You guess right. The standard eSATA connector is data only. 2.5" external HDDs with eSATA normally take power from a USB port but 3.5" will need a 12V supply.

Love the backlit keyboard option. This proves that more than most, Dell listens to its customers (Go IdeaStorm!)

At this rate I probably won't be getting the laptop by the end of August which means I might as well wait until Nov or Dec assuming that they'll have a sale on the laptops due to the holidays. When do you guys think that there will be a sale on the new E-family laptops between Sept and Dec?
