There's some good info in those Engadget slides (all day battery, backlit keyboard, new power brick, etc.) but they are also somewhat vague. There's no exact launch date nor details on the specification choices that will be available at launch (such as the graphics card model). Also, some of the pictures make the laptops look chubby.

@atbnet: Right with ya man! But let's not spoil the party for the E-series fans. :p

I thought the powerpoint was actually pretty disappointing. The product images look terrible! If this is what the final product looks like that Dell will be shipping, then I am very disappointed. The original concept images of these machines made them look very sleek and stylish, but I didn't see that today.

I'm a Dell guy, usually, but take a peek at the new Sony laptops. Very nice.

No 17" Latitude? Just the precision model (M6400)? That one has - e.g. - no dedicated number pad. Disappointing.

The E6400 is still on target to be my next main notebook. If there's 19 hours from main battery + slice then I estimate that's at least 6 hours from a 6 cell battery. eSATA is a bonus (my recent purchases of enclosures include eSATA). I hope the 14.1" LED backlit WXGA+ is available on launch.

The pictures are poor. Having seen these systems in person, I can say that they look a lot better up close! These pictures make them look like they are made from cheap black plastic. They are thinner than the previous models and the finish to me looks like brushed aluminum. Its still the magalloy skin, but it looks like metal instead of the grey plastic look of the D series paint job.

I have a D630 and put the e6400 next to it and it makes my 630 look old and boring.
