Try Linux with the card and see if it will work and rub an open gl benchmark if it freaks out and crashes it night be the card itself . I'm still waiting on details if the k4100m heatsink can be used with the 970 or p4000

I just did the upgrade to 2 M6800,one with an M5000M and the other with a Tesla M6,both with Pascal heatsinks without a problem and running win10 Pro.

My set of modded drivers are the 442.19 which in my case are the ones working better for my daily use.I have them but they are only modded for the M5000M and the M6 cards.

Have you followed the instructions posted in the forum to mod the drivers for your GTX980?

Just convert the images to jpeg using paint, maybe resize them a bit, then press the Upload a File button and then embed thumbnail, you only need to give the forum images that are smaller than 2MB each..

    The laptop specs:
    • Intel Core i7-4810MQ
    • 16GB DDR3L 1600 Ram
    • 1TB Samsung SSD
    • Windows 10
    • FirePro 6100M ---> Attempting a GTX980M
    The steps I took:
    • Before installing the video card, I booted into safe mode and used DDU to uninstall all the AMD stuff.
    • From there, I tore down the laptop and installed the new gpu/heatsink.
    • I downloaded the latest drivers for the 980M (definitely the mobile version, not the desktop version) for windows 10 - Version 445.87.
    • The HWID of the GPU in my laptop - "PCI/VEN_10DE&DEV_13D7&SUBSYS_15CD1028"
    • The lines in the nvdmi.inf file that I added to the top of each "NVIDIA_Devices" sections (there's 4 of them) - "%NVIDIA_DEV.13D7.15CD.1028% = Section090, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D7&SUBSYS_15CD1028". Why all 4 sections? Because I wasn't 100% sure which one I should have modified so I just did them all.
    • The line I added to the [strings] section - NVIDIA_DEV.13D7.15CD.1028 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M"
    • I also tried changing the section to "Section092" and "Section094" - both yielded same result.
    • I also tried downloading the nv_dispi.inf file from another post here on the forum - I think it was a github link.
    • I also tried a few other random older drivers from Nvidias website (442.19 was not one of them).
    • I even tried letting windows update grab a driver - which it did - but that resulted in instant BSODs upon logging in.
    • I even took an extreme - reformatted!
    • From there, I took another extreme - installed my old video card back into the laptop. I might have to say too that I'm pretty quick at it now - maybe 20 minutes, 30 tops.
A look at one of the logs in Event Viewer:
    • I wasn't able to find a log regarding the BSOD that described "VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR.
    • But here is the log for the nvlddmkm.sys BSOD I kept getting:
      Code:
      Log Name: System

Do you see any issues with the inf modifications? Anything else that stands out?

Yeah, I was on mobile at the time because my craptop was down. The upload file button was not there.

That's not a bad idea. I will try Ubuntu once/if there are any other advised recommendations.

    Thanks everyone.

What about the Vbios? It’s running version 84 04.85.00.0a

fyi, I reinstalled the 980m card.

Edit - I seemed to have gotten past BSODs. I ended up installing drivers from Eurocoms download section on their website. Now I’m just experiencing black screen when the 980m is active. I disabled optimus and have no video at all however the computer still boots to the desktop (can hear all the associated noises with logging in).

It can also be a gsync model, those don't work all that well on older systems that don't know what gsync is.

Please see the attached image for gpu-z. The name you'll notice has a 94 at the end of it. That was how I was identifying the section I had selected as I tried a bunch of them. Note that it is the same version that was mentioned by supermoth a couple posts up that they had working.

Also, if I pull up the task manager, everything is visible there, 8GB memory and other information that is displayed in a normal working system.

It is back to popping BSODs again.

Once, I loaded some drivers and didn't do the recommended restart but fired up a game...and it worked without issue. After I rebooted the laptop I got the BSODs again.

Is there anything I can disable/modify in the BIOS that might help? The brand of the card appears to be NVIDIA - does anyone know of any VBIOS modifications or updates/upgrades that might work?

How can I know if this is a gsync model or not? Is there any way to mitigate it if it is in fact a gsync model?

It's not gsync, a gsync would be 1317 on the device id, yours is 13D7.
Maybe try some other vbios, just backup your current on first.
