No the panel must support it ie there us a chip on gsync panels that allow it to work . Freesync could be possible though

Seems like it should work with an external panel connected via DisplayPort, right?
Getting an internal panel to work seems unlikely. It would have to be a newer eDP panel and those don't mount easily in this system (even if you have the eDP version of the motherboard).

greetings everyone, a little follow up on what's happening, i previously reported that my mother board got burned while trying to install new gtx 980m graphice card, now i installed a new mother board and did a fresh install of windows.
the card seems to appear in Device Manager next to the intel graphics, but seem to say : Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
So i tried to force it by disabling switchable graphics in the bios only to be greated with a green screen and when i booted to windowes it was flikering with all the possible colore in the world.
Now GPU-Z seems to detect the card but the BIOS of the card doesn't appear??!!!!
so is the card bricked or somehow not connected although i really made sure it's very well connected?
or is it a software issue ??
also the card doesn't seem to appear in the BIOS
where should i start searching ??
i would really be gratfull for your help because i really need it right now

I think you would have to use a converter for the internal screen so it probably wouldn't work . Ok not sure about the HDMI or display port but freesync is better then gsync anyway and works externally without the special chip. Btw I over locked my m6800 0snel to 75 Hertz looks and feels just s bit more smooth

Thick ones ....like 2 mm ...On my (faulty) P5000m there was never a cooling issue and using thick pads I rather hope the repaired 600$ card lasts. It is, in my experiences knocking on the door of a GTS 1070m ....maybe a better but not much....the dell nviidia heatsink works

Bit the bullet and upgraded to win10pro. Nvidia CP wasn't installed with 445.87 but did get an option to have microsoft install it, which it did normally. Then installed v445.87 with modified inf. Modified same "0685" (whatever machine that is) computer ID line I previously modified for the win7pro/445.75 install which worked except no nvidia CP. Used bcdedit/set testsigning to toggle driver signing. Interesting there was no specific optimus flag in any of the win10 nvdmi.inf sections. Perhaps it's set globally somehow? Now to adjust to win10pro.

Looking at the nvdmi.inf GPU strings makes me wonder how long before the 980M misses the cut with Nvidia...

I am expecting NVIDIA to drop support for Maxwell GPUs no earlier than spring 2021 (two years after they started to phase out support for Kepler GPUs). Maybe later. They are still supporting desktop Kepler GPUs. Unfortunately they do not give much advance notice for such things...

I cannot get modified drivers to work on this machine.

Does anyone have a copy of drivers that worked for them (M6800 with GTX980M) or maybe the aforementioned "415.xx" drivers? I am unable to find the old stuff.

I recorded a full 4K video of the hardware swap that I have to edit now. Now if I could just get the software portion of it to work...

    TIA

What are the odds I could get a copy of your modified driver files?

I guess the quote/reply links on this forum don't operate as expected....I tried to reply to the guy with modified drivers. I see he is using windows 7 though while I'm using windows 10 so that won't work for me either.

    Ugh

Well. It’s looking like I may be installing my old gpu back in my laptop. Here's what I'm up against:

Uhh....why can't I upload images on this forum? I have to host them elsewhere and link them over? Guess you'll have to use your imagination here....two different BSOD for the following:

    "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" "What failed: nvlddmkm.sys"
and the other is "Stop code: VIDEO SCHEDULER INTERNAL ERROR"

I've become comfortable with modifying the inf files and am able to get drivers to install. It doesn't matter what drivers I install, I get a BSOD or two. If I try to hook up one of my 27" Ultrasharps, the display shows a bunch of blue blocks, and then there is a 50/50 shot of either the computer just locking up or I get a BSOD. I've tried old drivers, new driver, windows update drivers - all to no avail.

Oh, and I reset the computer (windows uninstalled all apps and etc.).

    Any recommendations here?

**Edit - I ended up removing this card from my laptop and reinstalling my old one (FirePro M6100). Can anyone confirm that they have in fact got the 980M to work on an M6800 running Windows 10? If so, can you please offer the driver package that you used to get it to work? I am thinking that either this is not actually going to work on a windows 10 installation or I have a bad card.

So weird, I've seen so many posts on here where folks install the 980m and it works with minimal to no issues.
