I am trying to modify the INF files here and sign them myself. A couple questions I have:

    - Which INF file am I to be modifying? nv_dispi.inf or nfdmi.inf?

I tried following some instructions over on https://github.com/CHEF-KOCH/nVidia-modded-Inf - I'm doing something wrong - looks like I might be required to delete the nv_dispi.inf file from NVIDIA and use the one from the github link?

Is there a full detailed instruction somewhere that I may have overlooked that explains how to take a brand new driver (I want to try the latest version 445.87) and modify whatever INF file that needs modifying to work with the M6x00 and the gtx980m? I think once I can figure this portion out, the signing part is cake.

Oh, and per the comment above (#562)- I am running Windows 10....do I need to be downloading the "DCH" version of these drivers? ...because I tried the standard version.

    Thanks again gents.

edit....I'm just trying to get all the software stuff lined up so when all my hardware comes in I can <hopefully> be up and running all in the same day.

edit again....I think I’ve got it now. Found some YouTubers that explained it well. I didn’t realize that there were different INF files for different computer manufacturers. Now to test in a week or so when my stuff comes in.

In this post I explain what the different pieces of the hardware ID mean which can be helpful for understanding how the INF mod should work. I also detail the replacement that I do for Quadro M5000M in Precision M6700. You basically need to take a hardware ID in the INF file and change it to match the hardware ID that is showing in your system.

It is easier with a Quadro card to know which INF entry you should target for your replacement. I'm not sure which line to suggest to use with a GeForce card, but again, there was some discussion on this just two pages back which should point you in the right direction. If you pick the wrong one then you could end up with a successful driver install but Optimus not working.

A few pages up in this Thread you have a post created by myself with the different heatsinks for the upgrade.
¿Did you plan already the type of cooling that you are going to apply (Thermal Paste/Pads)?

If I reinstall 419.17 to get the nvcplui.exe folder, then copy and rename so DDU doesn't wipe it...will that work? Specifically, what folder do I need to install the control panel?

It should. Just grab the entire folder that contains nvcplui.exe and put it back in the same place after you switch drivers.
