E7250 / E7240 screen upgrade possibility (FHD IPS Matte)?

I didn't notice that this thread is more than one page. I just read through first one and I purchased LP125WF2-SPB4 from AliExpress. DON'T BUY LP125WF2 PANEL FOR E7240! Screw holes are reasonable but PCB part is too wide so you cannot put the screen into the cover. It never gonna fit in the laptop. I'm so angry about this right now so I signed up this forum and post this. LOL.

Even worse, SPB4 is not working with E7240. eDP 2 lane interface is available with eDP 1 lane interface if the screen resolution is low enough. eDP 1 lane cannot support FHD and SPB4 is FHD.

I should read whole thread. Pagination is too small to catch my eyes. Probably my eyes are hurt by TN screen on E7240. This is my fault I know... It looks like LP125WH2-SPM2 is the only option I can take. I'm ordering it now.

Yes sorry for the super late response but here is what happened

I got the panel but it would require some pretty serious modification with a Dremel on the bottom part of the lid plastic as well and some of the metal hinge for the LCD PCB area to fit and still attach the screen bezel back on.

This was no problem for me and I was prepared to do it, HOWEVER...

The 720p LVDS cable that comes stock will not work and thus the screen would show no picture and in fact the machine would not even pass POST with this panel connected to the stock 7240 LVDS cable.
I suspect it needs a eDP cable to work correctly but I have not spent the time or money sourcing one that maybe could work.

So I have a $70 panel from Taiwan in my closet that was not worth the hassle to ship back until I get motivated to source the correct cable.

I have read I think all of this thread and I am not sure if I get the overall message: if I have Dell Latitude E7250 with matte HD screen (720p) it is not possible to replace it with a 1080p screen (touch or non-touch) without significant hardware or cable modifications?
Am I right or is there a way?

 

Yea this Thread is hard to really get to the point. Ill try and summarize:


1. No-One has SUCESSUFLLY upgraded a STOCK MATTE 720p Dell Scree to a Matte 1080p Screen! (various 1080p Screen Part # mentioned in this thread)

2. When you do get a 1080P MATTE screen don't except it to fit in the 720p Screen Casing with out (some/lots) modification!!

3. You will need a "2 lane" eDP cable to upgrade to a Matte 1080p Screen! (No confirmation on any working aftermarket eDP cables)


If I have missed anything please update this thread. I am also stuck with a 720p screen but want to avoid going the 1080p touchscreen route to maximize battery life!

 

Just one thing to be 100% sure - is there a way to put a 1080p touch screen in my E7250? Original or replacement? Without hardware modifications?
If yes - what is the model I should be looking for?

 

Yes you can put a touchscreen in the E7250...


You need the whole top (LCD/Casing/Hinges) as well as the video cable that goes into the base...

For all you guys wondering if a edp 30 pin 2-lane full-hd screen works in a dell latitude e7240/e7250 w/ the stock cable.

Yes, it works, my dell e7250 is running a cheap FHD IPS screen from aliexpress w/ the stock
cable, my e7250 came w/ a HD (1366x768) screen. Now that does not mean that the screen
will fit physically straight away. There is some dremel work to be done both on the hinges and
the lid (the lid is made of some rather strong/hard metal and took me hours to dremel the tiny
cable guides in the lid). Also, you need to cut out a part of the hinges to make room for the
wider pcb board the FHD panels have. This work doesnt however compromise the lid/hinge
stability/robustness in any way.

Conclusion: the dell e7250 comes w/ a 30pin 2-lane edp lcd cable.

E7240:

No, it doesnt work. I tried the same screen I've got in my e7250 and it just stayed black.
However, the motherboard connector of the e7240 motherboard and the e7250 motherboard
are identical. Also, the cable for these computers big brothers (e7440/e7450) fit for both apparently:

Thats a link for a edp cable that fits (accordingly to aliexpress) both e7440 and e7450, so,
it might be possible that the e7250 edp cable works w/ the e7240 also. That I do not know.

 

The touch version of e7250 has a thicker lid, so, if you manage to cram the touch assembly
into the e7250 non-touch lid, then it will be too thick for the stock hinges and will not close properly.

Your only option is to replace the whole top-half of the laptop.

That requires a great deal of disassembly of the laptop so I'd only recommend this if "You know what youre doing ™"

Also, since the hinges on the touch version are different from the non-touch version, you'll
also need to change the hinge-covers (those shouldnt cost my tho).

 

Hello there. Now I know this is quite a old thread, but I'm facing this exact situation. I bought a E7240, but the TN screen isn't hitting very high on my list. Its actually quite painful for my eyes, which probably isn't a good thing. Anyhow, I've been looking at the LG LP125WH2-SPM1 model of LCD on Ebay ( https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LG-LP125...REEN-FOR-SALE-12-5-LCD-LAPTOP-UK/381134056408 ). However, when contacting the seller, they claim its not an IPS panel, which is strange to me, since from what I've been able to gather, there is only one model with this number, and its a IPS (AH-IPS). So, I really don't know if I've missed something or if the seller doesn't have their facts straight.
Any help is appreciated!

I've also contacted various sellers on eBay and AliExpress, claiming they would sell the "LP125WH2-SPM1" (or even SPM2 - the 2 is the glossy one according to Panellook.com), but in the end those numbers are just figures and unless stated otherwise, you'd at best only receive the HB125WX1 (http://www.panelook.com/modeldetail.php?id=21417) which is the one most E7240 came shipped with (mine did). I'd even go with a WXGA glossy type as long as it is IPS, but even the http://www.panelook.com/LP125WH2-SPM2_LG Display_12.5_LCM_overview_23364.html isn't available on most sites. Sigh.
