    Hi guys.
Nobody answered to my questions above ... so i try with a new one.

Are you disturbed by the ~2500rpm fan speed? i am >.<.
And i'm pretty shure that the notebook do not exceed 60°C in idle mode.

I'd love a mode were the processor may be throttled to the max and the
fan is off or going around 1000rpm. Like a silent mode!
Im often only watching pdf files for studying (Engineering) but i am not
able to keep the temperatures below the hilarious mark of around 50°C,
when the annoying fan is starting.
Even with lowerst energy configurations, turned off nvs5200m, windows
    7 basic design ... etc etc ...

You think theres a chance to get sth. like a silent mode by writing email to Dell?

    Greeting Manekken!

Dell would be foolish to provide fan control to the user, in that would put warranty repair beyond their control.

I must agree with you. That would be very dumb.
But dont you think that half the rpm would be enough?
How about one more speed step in the energy options?

I mean, the rest of this notebook is really pretty, tough and functional!
Only the fan control is real crap :p.

I wrote to Dell support yesterday. Let's see what i can find out about this...

Two weeks ago I bought two E6530 for the office, both with HD+ display (1600x900).

However, I found that both screens are different. The models are:

    - LG (LGD0338): Impressive screen. Very good contrast, and very good colours. The backlit is perfect: when I turn on the laptop, the screen remains all black, except the Dell logo or the Windows 7 Logo.

    - SAMSUNG (SEC544B): It's a good screen, but not impressive as the LG.

Unfortunately, at this moment I don't have the laptops here, so I can't do some tests with my Spyder4.

Hi! I'm looking for a good alternative to my returned XPS 15 (l521x) because fo the famous wifi + throttling issue.... I'm looking for a good built notebook for office use + video / photo editing (vegas movie studio and adobe lightroom). Is the e6530 a good choice? Can you tell me if the fullHD 1080p is good? What about viewing angle and color fidelty? Is it a noisy notebook? Last question: the keyboard looks strange (track point and 3 buttons above the trackpad). I never used a keyboard with the numeric pad on a notebook so that the typing keys are on the "left" and not centered. Is it comfortable?

Thanks again and sorry for my english!

Viewing angle and color fidelity are OK, a bit better than average for a business notebook, but nowhere up near IPS options. The one we received at my work (don't have it any longer; I traded down for an E6430) was a 6-bit dithering panel, not a true 8-bit -- not that I've seen any true 8-bit panels on any Latitudes.

It is with CPU and GPU running heavily, which tended to only be when I was compiling code or running games. It ran a little bit quieter than the E6430 does, probably because the cooling is better overall.

Avoiding the quad-core CPU and Nvidia GPU (not sure if Vegas uses it; it's useful for some Photoshop filters but probably not heavily used by lightroom) will also keep it cooler and quieter (and cheaper!)

That's typical of the Latitude line. Some models have an optional "single pointing keyboard" with only the trackpad; sadly, for those who really hate the pointing stick, that's not offered on the E6530.

I found it relatively slow to get used to, but it was fine after a couple of weeks.

    Hi all,

I did some tests with my Spyder4Pro to SEC544B panel (HD+ 1600x900). Here are the results:

    Brightness: 231 nits
    Contrast ratio: 310:1
    Black value: 0,75 cd/m2

    sRGB: 78 %
    AdobeRGB: 61 %

Hi, thank you so much for your feedback. About the noise level, I just want to have a quite notebook during easy activity like web browsing and ms word. For photo/video editing and heavy task, noise is not a problem. What do you think? Has anyone upgraded to Windows 8? Last question: battery life with the 6 cell battery?

    Thanks!

Have you tried changing the advanced power settings? In Power Options under Processor power management -> System cooling policy there's an option for passive cooling that should throttle the CPU.
