Ok guys, just ordered a 6530 with Windows 7. I just need one last info. If I choose to do a Windows 8 clean install, do I need the CMDSK "version inventory collection" and all the drivers under "system management" on the Dell driver download page?

    Thanks

Well , from my experience from even Vista, windows will install without issues (in other words most of hardware will be detected automatically - except Smart Card readers, FP readers and tools that drivers can be added later on).
I'm not sure about CMDSK, but when I enter my ServiceTag I see only for my E6530 in system management: Dell Feature Enhancement Pack that installs OSD for: volume actions, sound actions, and other additional features.
As I know from experience with Dell those shortcuts (Fn+up/down etc.) will still work, when this software is not installed - just OSD info will not be presented. In short, Dell gives You option to a) install only drivers for specific hardware b) install drivers + Dell applications.

The diffrent thing is: WWAN modems and Smart Card/FP - those could work correctly (in some cases) only with whole application (driver+dell app).

New Latitude e6530 looks great, BUT essentially is not usable. Dell decided to shift the keyboard to the very left and add the full numeric pad (for what?). As a result:
-- you essentially having space of 12" laptop to put you hands on (that is none!)
-- you can not keep it on your lap, as you type on the left part of the laptop and it falls down
-- you mistype all the time since keyboard and your hands are on the left of the center of the screen

There are other ergonomic blunders: sharp metallic edge around laptop is unpleasantly cold and hurts your hands, touch pad is too close to the edge. After 3 days of working on this laptop my left hand became dysfunctional and hurts. Also surfaces and in particular fancy cover soils easily. I have older Dell Latitude and it seems that it was made by an entirely different company.

Don't buy this, unless all you intend to do is to calculate you gains/losses on the numeric pad.

Hi, maybe it's true (I'll receive my e6530 this week) but you'll find keyboard+numpad on 99% of 15 inches notebook... I would like to hear if other owners found the keyboard layout unusable on the e6530...

When you've worked on 14" all the time before, it will take some time to adjust to this layout. But it is not that bad as I imagined, and one very nice think. Keyboard has nice soft click (fingers like that , less stress on them , when typing a lot). After a four weeks of use, I really like this keyboard, but mostly thanks to its soft click.

So, for the problems with the numeric keypad, what other laptop would you suggest?

Ok, just received the e6530 and the keyboard is very good, no problem with the numpad! Just one problem: where I can find the fingerprint reader drivers for Windows 8?

    Thanks!

Does anyone know where I can purchase the mSata daughterboard? I have a system that did not come with an mSata drive, and thus does not have the mSata daughterboard. Anyone know where I can buy one, or the part number or anything?

    Thanks!!

EDIT: after some research, I am now wondering if this mSata Daughterboard even exists! Does ANYONE have an E6530 with an MSATA drive in it?

Also, does anyone know if the NVS5200M is based on the 40nm GF108, or the 28nm GF117 ?

Give it a shot and see if it works. I think I might try this as well. I can take the mSata out of my other laptop to test with..
