Dell is sending me an e6530 to replace my e6520. Would be great to know the answer to this!

Have you tried putting it in the WWAN slot?

Also, I just spoke with Dell, who confirmed that mSatas definitely are supported by the e6530, so there's that.

    1) The Lenovo Thinkpad T530/W530 are still numeric-keypad free.
    2) I didn't find it unusable (after a period of adjustment) but I never did find it worked as well as a centered keyboard, and this was one of the reasons I went back the the E6430 (although weight and bulk was a bigger one, and having a personal laptop rather than a loan from my employer also played in.)

It did NOT work in the WWAN slot when we tested it at my work. This was before the big October BIOS update to support Win8, so I suppose it's possible that unlocked it, but my bet would be no.

What makes you so sure? I confirmed with crucial that this (CT128M4SSD3 - 128GB, mSATA Solid State Drive , from Crucial.com) should be 100% compatible with the e6530, and have ordered one to test. They were quite confident.

My 6530 just arrived and I hooked it up. It's charging. Wasn't DOA. Query: have any of you tried to change the BIOS/CMOS SATA configuration default to AHCI, versus the RAID ON default -- without problems? Other Dells report problems in this forum, but I've not seen any reported problems on the 6530. I told Dell I would return the machine if I can't just switch to AHCI, but they think I can without driving Windows 7 Pro into a BSoD.

Thank you for your time, and any input you care to give!

@veritas72 -then 'fingers crossed' but where will you put it ? In WWAN slot ? mSATA slot in E6530 is half length. Examples I mentioned aren't the only ones that will work with it, those are just examples. But one you've bought is full length mSATA, so I doubt You'll be able to use it.

You can, with a little pre-work, switch from IRRT (raid on) to AHCI without BSOD in win7: http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...-switch-irrt-ahci-mode-e6400-e6500-vista.html is a good example (also, there appears to be an automatic tool in the MS KB article now: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976), but the drivers might be a tad outdated (to clarify, later in the post it includes win7 specific stuff, but the process is the same either way). Why are you opposed to using IRRT in the first place?

well, we shall see. I'll let you know.
