I just read all 26 pages of this thread and am considering picking up one of these units.

I would like to know if the WWLAN slot will accept a full height WLAN card.

I know other posts said an mSATA device would not function.

    Three questions:

    1) Will a full height WLAN card function properly in the full height WWLAN slot?

    2) If not, with some tinkering, would a full height WLAN card be made to work in the half height WLAN slot?

    3) If I do pick one of these up, I would want one manufactured by "LG", as those seem to be the best. I've checked a few service tags, and one of the panel suppliers appears to be "LEGEND."

    a) Is the "LEGEND" in the parts description the same as this company here?

The article is quite old but that does not mean the company does not exist.

My understanding is that the chief suppliers, as indicated here, are Samsung, LG, AUO, Chimei, and Sharp.

    Thank you!

I don't see why it wouldn't. Normally / by standard, mini-PCIe slots contain one PCIe lane (one pair of "send" signals and one pair of "receive").

In the case of slots that support mSATA as well (ie. in addition to mini-PCIe), the above-mentioned signals are switched "out" and the similar signals from a SATA port are switched "in". But these are the exception rather than the rule.

Virtually all mini-PCIe slots support all mini-PCIe cards (or USB - the slot contains the signal lines for one of those too). Form-factor (full or half-mini) is a purely mechanical "thing".

Thank you for the rapid response. If I pick one of these units up, I intend to install a high sensitivity wireless card. The primary reason I ask is because according to this thread here, a WWLAN card will not work in the WWLAN slot in the T530, or T430, or T520, while it will work in the WWLAN slot on the T420.

    EDIT #1:

It appears that the full height slot in the T420 may not be wired up, either, according to this, and this.

One of the primary reasons I am going with a used Dell is to avoid dealing with proprietary BIOS whitelists.

    EDIT #2:

However, in this thread here, this post in particular, pointing here, suggests otherwise.

We don't want to leave out our friends at reddit, either!

    * * *

I am browsing specs and am trying to find a unit with an FHD panel by LG to avoid the "screen door" effect.

    In this line here:

"LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 15.6FHD, WLED, AG, LEGEND"

Do you happen to know what "AG" or "LEGEND" mean?

    EDIT #3:

So, I feel silly; "AG" means "Antiglare."

I'd still like to know what "LEGEND" means...

If you're going for a Dell anyway, what's with all the links to Lenovo stuff? It's been known for ages that they (and HP) have whitelists for WLAN cards, and likely WWAN as well. Apples vs. oranges much? :D

No idea what that "legend" thing's all about, but i have one of those LP156WFC's in my M4800, and i have no complaints about it. Is that "screen door" thing related to too-low a resolution, or..?

    1) The links serve several purposes:

    a) When joining a new forum, I believe it is important to demonstrate that one has done one's research first
    b) By showing one's thought processes, it is possible others, by following the chain(s) of thoughts, can better understand one's purpose
    c) Other people may be in a similar state of affairs and by collecting the data in one place, in one post, it may save them time

    2) The whitelisting on my other candidate, the T420, is not an issue; I already downloaded an appropriate BIOS.

    3) For your LG screen, is it denoted as "LG" in the parts manifest?

    4) I would like to know what to look for when purchasing an E6530 so that I may choose one with the favored LG panel. :)

I believe that Legend is a Chinese display manufacturer. I would wait and see how the panel looks. In my experience it's AUO which was too generous with the antiglare coating on the 14" panels.

    —noted!

Therefore, so as to get a panel made by LG, instead of seeing this line when I research the service tag

"LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 15.6FHD, WLED, AG, LEGEND"

    what should it say instead?

For example on a 1600x900 model, it ends in "SECONDARY" instead of "LEGEND", as seen here:

"LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 15.6HDF+, WLED, AG, SECONDARY"

    I wonder what "SECONDARY" means...?

    *scratches head*

Thank you (plural) for all the help!

Interesting. I wonder how many sellers on e-Bay would be willing to download and run that program for me to check prior to purchase? :-(

In this post here, Mr. Ratsey notes that since Dell uses the part numbers interchangeably, running a software diagnostic or physically opening up the case may be the only way to tell.

Thank you all for the help! :)
