E6530 owners thread

Hello, I am considering buying this machine used or refurbished. I have two questions:

1) I have seen that on the E6440, the right click and left click trackpoint buttons require one to press in the low part (whereas the middle button must be pressed in the high part). I wonder if this is also the case on the E6530/E6430?

This unpractical arrangement is apparently the same on the Precision M6700 the owners thread on the Precison M4800.

2) Is there visual volume feedback, or at least available drivers for this? (There is not on E6440, and apparently not on M4800.)

 

there is no visual volume feedback. Only windows feedback in taskbar.
But e6530 i one fine laptop.

 

E6530 developed strange issue after WIn10 upgrade. CPU runs at full speed every single moment. It doesn't matter if it idles or it is in full load.

Thank you. While not important, it is strange that Dell doesn't bother maintaining this feature, which worked very well on my old Latitude D820.

Do you use the trackpoint/pointstick, or could check how its buttons work? On an E6440 I have tried, you cannot press on the whole button, only on the lower part.

 

Upgrade to Windows 10. Visual volume feedback is embedded right into the OS without any software add-ons (ie: Dell Quickset) required.

 

I love this E6530 still... I have 3 of them.. Lately tho one crashed. It won't power up at all. No lights or boot up screen. Not sure what to do with it. I was thinking of having it repaired but I don't know who would do it reasonable. I mean used ones can be had off Ebay for the same or less money can't they?
On a side note I upgraded to win10 and after a few days reverted back.The upgrade went fine. I just don't like 10 for what my needs are..

 

What other models used the same lid as the E6530, and had a 1920x1080 option? That'll help broaden my search for a disassemble-unplug-plug-reassemble-n-play display upgrade from 1366x768.

Mine was given to me, sans battery. I found a good used one for $15. It's the version without the nVidia GPU. But it does have a Core i7 3540M.

It's an ex-government laptop, penny pinchers that opted for the 1366x768, no webcam, no fingerprint reader, no GPU, small hard drive, 8 gig RAM - then figured a high end CPU would make up for it all. Service tag info claims 8 gig but somewhere along the line one of the DIMMs got swapped for a 2 gig so it only has 6.

I'd like to pump it up some, without spending more than simply laying down the dough for one that already had 1080p and nVidia. Mainboards with GPU and the heat pipes for them aren't too $$$ but the LCDs. Yikes! Often it's much cheaper to buy a whole laptop with problems and just swap the entire lid and cables.

 

That update you found is just a firmware update for that model of SSD. Dell likely had a configuration with the Liteon SSD in the HDD caddy.

 

Glad to see this thread somewhat active still. I love this machine. Bought one new back in 2013 for $1200.. have 5 now. One won't power up..but just bought one for $400 on ebay that's like brand new. I just use Macrium Reflect to transfer the image over to every one. Works great. Take a spare on the road and leave one home. trade batteries,etc. With a SSD it's fast enough for me.

 

SSD is so fast with this unit.. and I agree on the build. 3.0 is great for now and my uses. I have a 750 gb drive in a caddy for storage. Plan on getting a 1 TB SSD for OS and moving the 500 SSD to Caddy.
