E6530 owners thread

To all E6530 owners,

Dear friends, I have E6530 with core i5 3360M, and QM77 chipset. Now there is an oportunity for me to buy i7 3740QM. Socket is the same, but this mainboard is one with only HD4000 - to be precise it is mainboard without dGPU as HD4000 is in CPU of'cos. Question is, will this CPU (quad core , same line, same socket) work in this mainboard? Did anyone of you guys tried to such installation successfully ? (lets for now put aside heat issues, a this I can handle other ways.) .

EDIT: Will dual core i7 - 3540M work? (after BIOS upgrade).

I'm interested in this case as well. I can find an E6530 with an i7-3720QM without extra nvidia card on a dutch site like ebay. So that means it is possible to drive a i7 with only a HD4000. I now have a i5-3320m and want to upgrade to an i7-3720qm. The benchmarks look promising

My Latitude e6530 is not turning on. If you press the power button, the light on the power button lights up for a few seconds then turns off, nothing else happens, no fan turning on, no display. Is there a way to fix this?

If you connect your power adapter, does the charge light burn? Does the machine respond if you press the F2 key or F12?
Did you something special before the last shutdown?

What you can try, pull out the battery and power adapter. Hold down the power button for 10 seconds. Put the battery back in and the adapter.
Try to turn de laptop on again.

 

Well, i got that one going, needed a hard reset, now the other one, a 13z 5323 which was working just fine has died completely.

No power led, no other leds, no fan spinning, no nothing when you plug in the adapter. I disassembled it and unplugged the battery, even then no nothing, completely dead. How can this happen to a laptop that was working fine a minute ago. It is as if there is a short on the board somewhere.

 

I finally upgraded my i5-332m with an i7-3610qm. First had some problems with the heat coming from the cpu. After half an hour the temps were about the 70 degrees and higher.
After using arctic mx-4 cooling paste the temps dropped to 50 - 60 degrees. And the fan is spinning on low - mid speeds.

Performance wise, what a great upgrade! in combination with my 256gb ssd everything works flawless!

 

For anyone who is interested, I have successfully upgraded the low res WXGA (1366x768) LCD panel that my frugal employer purchases in our E6530's to an FHD 1920x1080 LCD panel. The laptop has an Intel Core i5-3340M CPU @ 2.7Ghz with the Intel HD Graphics 4000 running the Windows 8 driver version 10.18.10.3412. I did have to replace the LVDS cable as mentioned earlier in this thread to get it to work. The original WXGA panel used the Dell part number G4J1F. I had to purchase and install the 9TFW1 cable. The cable swap was fairly easy using the Dell Latitude E6530 Owner's Manual as a reference. The display I installed was made by AUO and looks fantastic. 1920x1080 on a 15.6" display means you need good eyes but everything is very crisp and sharp. I love the extra display real estate to work with.

 

Question about battery charging:
I use my Latitude as a desktop. I selected Primary AC use in Dell's Battery Information utility to try and get the longest life from my 9 cell battery, and Power Options in Control Panel are set to balanced. When I was looking at the info from CPUID HWMonitor, it showed the battery was charged to 108%, and battery wear level at 9%. Isn't 108% charge shortening the lifespan of my battery? Does 9% wear sound normal for a system approximately 8 1/2 months old? For those of you familiar with it, is CPUID HWMonitor's assessments of my laptop's vital signs usually accurate enough to be this anal about all this? Dell's Battery Info utility says battery health is "Excellent"

A week ago I got a refurbished E6530 (i5-3340M, 4GB RAM, Intel HD 4000 only), fresh installed Windows 8.1 on an SSD drive (Crucial MX100 256 GB). Performance is great, start up within 10 seconds, shutdown fast too. Display (1600x900, LG panel) is fine too. I was considering changing it for a FullHD one by LG, but I seem to be fine with this one. Keyboard is great too.

I am now running web browser, couple of IMs, listening to radio and the CPU temp is 45 degrees, which is very fine. The fan is running quitely though.

Couple of reasons I did not get E6540 instead:

-TDP of CPU is 35W, while E6540's same performance CPU's is 37W + the cooling issues of 6540
-though E6540 is lighter, I prefer sturdier built E6530, I dislike white cover of E6540 too
-don't know why, but Ivy Bridge seems better than Haswell to me
-possibility to change for E6520's FHD screen by LG (which is supposed to be the best one)
-I prefer E6430/E6530's speakers comparing to current models

I installed Windows 8 from Dell's DVD without issues. Right after installation I installed Dell's Command Update which updated most of drivers and then I installed Windows' updates and upgraded to 8.1. For a former Windows 7 user Windows 8.1 is very user-friendly - I really like it.

My E6530 has fingerprint reader - has anybody managed to use it flawlessly on Windows 8? If so, how did you install it?

Has somebody tried to use wifi card Intel 7260 AC on E6530 - does it work fine? Do Intel's drivers work?

Is there a Windows 8.1 DVD from Dell already?

 

Just grabbed one off EBay. I have an E6520 (sold E6510,E6410,D531,D630 "ATG").
Interested to see if my WWAN card will work that I pulled From my E6510. Also going to drop in my Intel 6300 and SSD. Wondering if 16GB RAM is worth it...?

It is a i7-3740QM(fancy quad), 1920x1080, NVS 5200, BT, Webcam. Comes with an 256GB SSD that will be 4 sale soon. Comes with 7 Pro but I'll load my own on it with Ubuntu...
Also going to get a CRT station and extended batteries for it. I miss certain things on my E6510, except the NVS 3100M driver issue....
Anyone figured out a 1/2 reliable msata configuration? I've read all 22 pages of this thread but still come up short.
