I had a 5440 before I bought my current 6440. The build quality is better on the 6440, no doubt. The plastic edges on the 5440 tend to chip and crack. Weight feels about the same on both. The larger battery will definitely add more weight. As far as battery life, probably not a lot more. An hour or two more at best.

    thanks Z31.

It does seem the e6440 has superior build quality.

Another thing is that the i5-m processor in the e6440 will have more power but use more battery life. HOWEVER, the e6440 has:

    1. 9 cell big battery
    2. 3 cell bay battery to replace the dvd drive
    3. 9 cell slice battery.

This will add a lot of weight but I am curious how much battery life the e6440 would have if it had all that battery power :)

A nominally faster CPU doesn't necessarily use more power under light usage.

As a starting point, add up the battery capacity in watt-hours and assume that 80% is usable. Then, if your average battery drain is 10W (light usage with some spikes of extra capacity, moderately dim display, etc), run time = capacity/10.

Assume that batteries weight 50 grams / 2 ounces per cell, but then add up to 50% more for the casing. Or look at the specifications in the back of Dell's User's Manual for the computer which usually gives the actual weights of each battery type.

I don't know about the Dell-branded Sierra Wireless, but I have a generic MC7700 Sierra Wireless in my E6440 and it works like a dream. Nothing like sitting in the middle of nowhere and still watching YouTube!

Don't know whats so hard about it. You install the drivers in Windows 10, put a SIM in the slot (remove the battery, and make sure you have a small flat-head screwdriver if you want to remove the micro-SIM!), and it should show, in Windows, a way to connect to the WWAN.

You'll need to, of course, un-replace the SSD. You can get msata to 2.5" SATA adapters if needed.

Just got my new E6440. I thought they stopped building them, but sure enough, mine turned up with a February 2016 build date.

Is there anything that can be done about that Intel 6235 wireless? It only works at roughly half the speed of the Atheros on my old laptop. Is the 7260 any better?

Unless you really need AC support, I think the one you'd want to upgrade to is the 6300, at least if there is a third antenna wire.

It's possible the mPCIe 7260s are better than the M.2 version, but I was incredibly unhappy with the M.2 versions it's slower even with AC than I got with N on the 6300; the 7265 was an improvement (but still didn't perform any significant amount better than the 6300 at least with my access points), and the 8260 is genuinely fast.

    Hello everyone!

I have an E6440, and I want to add up a WWAN Card. What cards can I use for this notebook? I would like to use 4G too if I could, here in Europe (B3,B7,B20 Bands). I know I can use the DW5570 HSPA+ one, but what are the others which are compatible with this machine? Thanks for the answer.

Sierra Wireless MC7710 gives you B3, B7, and B20 support for LTE. MC7455 is basically the daddy-mac of them all, but is $$$.

The key is Windows 8/10 drivers, *and* miniPCI-E support.

As for the DW5570, the problem with it is no LTE or at least that's what I read in the specs.

Hey thanks well I already tried the Sierra Wireless card and it works fine but my question on here was
If I have a Msata SSD in the top slot that would usualy take the broadband card can I put a smaller broadband card in the lower half size slot and it work, eg card like this
    https://techship.se/products/ericsson-h5321gw-101/

can anyone let me know if my idea is stupid and wont work with the Dell E6440 internal sim card slot.

    If anyone knows of any
Half height mini pcie wwan modules for broadband net 4G 3G etc, please let us know!!! :)
