I suspect the issue involved would be that the micro-SIM reader probably isn't wired to that particular port on the physical miniPCI-E interface. It is likely only wired to the WWAN port (ie: the full-sized slot!).

Thanks, looking at the laptop that spot shows WWAN and has the larger card above the smaller one making me think that both were WWAN but maybe your right.
I also just had a play around and moved the WLAN card into the small WWAN slot below what would be your Sierra Wireless card. and it worked.

I think you might be right about the micro-SIM reader but am hoping someone could confirm.

Otherwise I have to decided either
1: keep my Msata SSD In the Big WWAN slot
2: Use an SSD in CD Bay and Broadband card in the Big WWAN slot

Has anyone with E6440 succesfully got Msata SSD and Broadband Card working at the same time ?

I was also wondering if you can buy ExpressCard to PCIE express to put this Broadband card in.. OR perhaps there is another way to use a sim card with a laptop?

Did you actually achieve a connection to a cell tower, and transfer data? Or was it just a matter of achieving connectivity to the card?

The USB interface (as part of the miniPCI-E connector) can be present, but the key is that the SIM interface is "passed through" to the card itself electrically.

Kind of unfortunate that Dell wasn't able to engineer these laptops for 2 x full-size miniPCI-E. That would've resolved a few shortcomings I'm dealing with (ie: no mSATA + full-sized WWAN, for instance!).

I'm not sure I think it was ok.
I think I have a solution though ..I'll find the link.

Okay, so I'd like to fit a 2nd 2.5" SSD where the DVD-RW would ordinarily go. eBay and Aliexpress are a whole mumble-jumble of various adapters, some of which require that I strip parts off of my existing DVD player to attach. Which I'd rather not.

Anyone have any suggestions on what the best E-bay (not to be confused with eBay) 2.5" SATA HDD adapter is?

The electrical part of a 2.5" optical bay adapter is a pass-through connector and there's no real difference between any of the caddies in this respect. The notebook-specific parts are (i) a fixing bracket which stops the adapter from sliding out of the bay (usually this has one screw fixing it to the optical drive and is simple to swap as the 2.5" adapter usually has mounting screw holes in the standard locations) and (ii) a bezel (faceplate) which matches the side of the computer. If the side of the computer is straight and black then the standard bezel which is provided on some 2.5" bay adapters would probably look OK. Otherwise it's a matter of unclipping the bezel from the optical drive and putting it on the adapter. It isn't difficult once you have figured out where to start. There is this long thread in the hardware forum which I can't find but this shorter thread may be sufficient.

    Hi,
I have a question about this laptop. I got a "new" one (core i5, ssd, 8gb). OS is Windows 7 and all drivers installed (Dell original drivers)
When i start a full hd video, it gets very hot and loud. the fan is very loud while watching youtube. i guess the problem is that the intel hd 4600 is used for browser videos. You have the same problem? Thank you.

Right click on the video and see if hardware acceleration is enabled. If not, try it.
