nothing to try: there are no drivers inside this package of applications (Dell_SX2210-Monitor_Webcam SW RC1.1_ R230103.exe)

nope and ssd is not an issue at all in this case

I just got my E6220 today it was a scratch and dent unit and only has a tiny little dent on the top lid but I got it for only $704 so I'd call that a steal for a mostly max spec model (i7 2620m, 8GB ram, 128GB ssd, external dvd burner, 6 cell (more on that soon))

Anyway, whenever I'm on battery power there seems to be a high pitched sound coming from the battery or somewhere close, I can't tell. If I take the battery out then the sound goes away (AC Power does not produce the high pitched sound). So has anyone else experienced this?

It's interesting because Dell sent me a 30Whr Battery (3 Cell) and it was advertised as a 60Whr 6 Cell to be included. I've already sorted that out with Dell and they're sending a new 6 cell to me overnight.

I'm thinking its just the battery I have currently is faulty and I am hoping it goes away when I use the 6 cell battery. If it still occurs with the new battery I have a feeling its something on the motherboard and I will have to return my E6220 which sucks because I really like it so far.

It's likely the power circuit, which sometimes buzzes. You can get them to replace the motherboard and see if that fixes it.

BTW, you're lucky to get the 3-cell. Those are worth much more than the 6-cells because 3-cell batteries are rare, and I haven't had much luck finding one to keep as a spare. It's much lighter without anything sticking out the back.

Well I did some research and apparently its a known semi-common issue. Dell will fix it but I found out from a thread on Dell's support forum that if you disable c-states then it will go away and it seems to have worked fine. If it really acts up again or one day the motherboard just fries I know Dell is there to replace it until 2015 when my warranty expires.

Got my 6 cell battery today too. Dell definitely has some good customer service going on for their business line, I'm glad I bought a Latitude.

It may be my bad luck, or my extreme sensitivity to the high pitched whining noise, but almost every single one of the laptops I've owned in the past few years had the whine, some worse than others. It's not the battery, happens when the CPU steps down as you've already learned. The only laptop I had that was nearly silent was a 2011 Macbook Air I just sold. Every Dell and Lenovo I touched whined.

But like I said, I'm extremely sensitive to that high pitched noise. I hear it all over my house  The only time my house is completely silent is during the occasional power outage when every electrical device is shutoff.

    GadgetsNut, I have a question.

I've had this X220 IPS panel sitting here for a while because I ordered it when I got the E6220. I just haven't installed it. Now, my question is how do I actually get at the panel? The bezel looks to be really fragile. Do I just pry the bezel up? I can get the screen detached from the notebook, no problem. I just don't want to tear the LCD assembly up getting to the panel.

The bezel pops off the back cover, it's pretty easy to do. However, the bottom part has some adhesive that may be stretched (and then it will have a bulge when you reinstall it).
