E6220 Owners Thread

Looking to grab an updated E6220 from the outlet and was looking for some folks who had experience with it to give some feedback as to their thoughts. Reviews are scarce elsewhere online of actual hands on experience and saw no owners thread here.

Any thoughts or personal reports from E6220 owners?

 

Ordered mine off the Outlet earlier this week. Will get it next week and I will post up a review here.

 

Any owners have any longer term ownership comments? Not much about on the E6220....

 

I've had my E6220 for about a month now. I7-2620m, 8gb, 256gb ssd.

Upgrading from E4310 with i7-620m, 8gb, 256gb ssd.

the E6220 is much faster than the E4310 in my work load. Also runs cooler/quieter.

I can get about 6 hours out of the 6 cell battery.

Overall very pleased with the upgrade.

Only gripe is the use of 7mm thin HD's. Makes it tougher to find a SSD that would fit as most are still the standard 9.5mm height.

Seems all of Dell's E6x20 series uses 7mm drives, as a E6420 we recently received also had a 7mm hd.

 

Mine has just arrived, is it normal for the 6-Cell battery to move when wiggled? its secure and delivers power but moves a bit.
On the size/weight, compared to the Toshiba R630 we have at work, it feels about the same, not as thin but a lot better built, reassuringly solid. Nice and smart too! Keyboard is lovely, better than the Tecra M5 and the horrible chicklet one in the R630!

Not sure if it has the backlit keyboard, where is the on/off switch?

My battery moved also, a bit more than I expected. I ended up folding 2 post it notes and laying them inside the battery compartment. The battery stopped moving around and was in there pretty solid.

For the backlit keyboard, if you do have a backlit keyboard, you would see a orange glowing key stamped on the right arrow key.

I dont have the backlit keyboard, no symbol. Will see if i can retrofit one sometime.

One other thing, I found that when you plug the power cord in, the fan comes on full tilt, and cant seem to turn it down. It goes off/down when you restart with it running on battery. Had a look in the power settings but nothing obvious, could not see anything in the bios either.

Dell just gave me one to try out.

 

I'm impressed with the laptop. Not really sure about the wobbly battery as mine is pretty snug.
Any good sleeve recommendations for a 12.5" ?

 

I am using one made for the 13" Macbook pro, lovely fit and really well padded, it was £40 odd which is a lot more that I wanted to spend.

But I would double check the fitment in a shop. Mine fits lovely as it has the larger battery which makes a nice snug fit.

I have noticed that it the screen seems to show the grid of pixels, if that makes sense, I also noticed that the Toshiba R630 at work does this as well. I also get a strange effect with colour grading/camera noise where it shows harsh contours and grouping instead of smooth gradients.
