E6220 Owners Thread

I had an e6420 that came with a Samsung 810 which is a 7mm drive and is what fits in the 6220, though I can't say for certain I got my 6220 with an HDD. It really is too bad mSATA SSD doesn't work in it. I put the Nocti in it, doesn't see it at all.

 

Given the price that Dell charges for the SSD upgrade, I would buy it with a HDD and buy the SSD aftermarket. I picked up the 7mm Crucial M4 128MB for ~$162 on Newegg after a coupon and couldn't be happier with the performance.

 

So I just received my e6220. It's a little bit on the heavy side with the 6 cell. I've used ultrabooks before so I guess anything over 3+ lbs is quite heavy... Anyways, I noticed a few quibbles. The 6 cell battery wiggles up and down a lot. Does anyone else's battery wiggle too?

I also noticed that the bottom panel doesn't seem to fit right. The left side of the panel seems stressed due to components it's covering. Everytime I type, the panel and bottom chassis makes a clicking sound. Quite annoying. I took the panel apart but didn't notice anything wrong with it... Not sure what's going on... Anyone with their e6220 experience the same thing I'm going through?

 

My 6 cell wobbled too when I got it. I just folded up a sticky note and put it in between the chassis and the battery and it's pretty solid now.

MY back plate fits on fine though. I'd try to figure out what cable/component is causing the wiggle and try to move it so that it can go on straight and make sure the screw is tightened.

 

Mine arrived yesterday, wow. 6 Cell battery is a touch on the loose side, but NOTHING compared to the E4200 which rattled!

Now the SSD... my E6220 came with a 256GB Samsung PM830 SSD which is absolutely outstanding.

Yes, it is a heavy little thing really, compared the my E4200, but performance wise is just wow.


Edit to say that my back plate is fine...

 

THe couple of these I bought a few months ago came with Samsung PM810 SSDs - sold in retail as the 470 series. The last couple come with the Samsung PM830, which is sold as the 830 series and is one of the fastest SSDs you can get today.

 

Has anyone here seen what Dell have put on the express slot blanking plate in the E6220?

I actually have noticed that and was very impressed by their ingenuity to make use of the extra plastic there. Very cool...even if I haven't ever used it.

 

Anyone figure out how to make the backlit keyboard stay lit?
