I have had dells for most of my life and although I am not married to the company, they have held up fairly well for me over the years. That said, i've been searching for a laptop that would fit my needs for months now and was really interested in the e4300 ever since i saw the pics on engadget. It is very unfortunate that the prices are so high. I am very VERY dissapointed. It seemed to have most of want I wanted for my future peace corps service. Lenovo is looking more and more tempting as time goes on...

I'm really disappointed that the E4200 starts out at 2 grand.. I thought they were going to be a little more competitive..

It's basically my dream notebook for lightness, portability and full powered for almost anything you throw at it.. And good to type on.. I might still order one.

Anybody know what the speed difference is for the "Ultra performance SSD" versus the regular?

    Jay

Yah, if Dell wants to sell some computers they better make it competitive. Lenovo is sell it way cheaper than that.

Just ordered my E4300 -- SP9300 (2.26 GHz), 4 MB RAM, 250 GB HD@7200, e-dock, UltraSharp 24-inch monitor, extra power cord and battery, keyboard, mouse, etc.

Just over $3000 for everything. Not really worried about the price -- my employer is picking it up. ;)

I can't believe there are no real reviews of this thing yet anywhere...

These are not consumer laptops, why should Dell lower the price anytime soon? I don't think it's going to happen contrary to popular opinion. I, too, am disappointed in the pricing, especially of the E4200. UltraSSD or not, just a hair over three grand is way too much. And *gasp* No webcam! Also, neither of the models are very configurable at the moment.

The Lenovo x301 is looking better and better. It's too bad, it's so limited with the ports and doesn't even have a media reader.

The new e4300 looks pretty nice but the price is just ridiculous. I would wait until Dell has no other choice but to lower the price (usually before their quarterly earnings announcements).
