Because Dell's offer on the E4300 is not competitive at the moment.

VAIO Z is lighter, made of all carbon fibre, has a better CPU, a better GPU and is cheaper.

Lenovo X200 is also cheaper. Lenovo U330 is way cheaper and has way more options.

E4300 prices in europe are pretty competitive though.

The base model E4300 in Europe is cheaper than cheapest Sony Z. In US the base E4300 is more expensive than the cheapest Z.

Cancels this one for me... Hoped for WXGA+ like the X300.
The screen options in all the new E series seem a little disappointing (no WSXGA in the 15,4' inchers for example).

Decided to go for one. Managed to get the price down by $400. Paid $2100 for my E4300.

I would have ordered the X200 from CPP, but it wouldn't accept Canadian Paypal, and Lenovo prices are jacked up in Canada for any comparable model.

I was pretty excited about the Z, especially with that high-res screen but I have been reading the reviews on it and it appears pretty heavy--don't know why though with its all carbon-fiber construction.

I prefer Dell's warranty and support though since I am always traveling.

Heavy? lol Did you ever had one in your hand? The Vaio Z is pretty light.

I completly agree that this laptop is terrible from dell. The pricing is bad, the options are beyond terrible, the design is no where CLOSE to the competition. We don't even get a graphics card for 2000 dollars? My dad said "Don't buy sony it's over priced and you can't have what I have." but dell really is showing off that they can price up stuff too. This E4300 can't even touch the Sony Z series at the same price point spec wise and design wise you couldn't put the 2 next to each other without laughing.

Now the E4200 is completely ridiculous as well. These ULV processors running vista are terrible. They run at a crawl battery life you gain doesn't make up for the fact that you get computer slowdowns and freezes. To make matters even worse the asus u6v is better all around including the style. The only thing that makes the asus worse is probably the battery life since it doesn't feature switchable graphics which would put it on the same level as this laptop almost. The u6v weighs a little more too but at 12 inches with the features it packs it definitely has a leg up on the E4200. the next u6 series if it has DDR3, and switchable graphics, will make this laptop look like a joke(if it doesn't already).

I convinced my dad to look at this laptop over the lighter TZ that he would normally get since the Z series has a ton more performance in it after he held it.

Only problem is that the Sony Z keyboard sucks (if you're used to a Latitude or a Thinkpad), and that has a huge impact on the user experience.

With the display options available and no dedicated GPU the E4300 feels already outdated.

I don't agree but that's probably a personal matter of taste.

If I already didn't order Z-5500s and a 37 inch TV I would order the Sony Z. Tired of waiting for dell when all I want dell to do is release a Sony Z competitor with a Dell brand label on it that will hopefully cost less. If price isn't a concern the Sony Z is probably the best in the 13 inch realm. Then again Sony is the only company with a good 13 inch montevina laptop so that doesn't really say much.
