Not in Win 8.1 - Fn+up or down arrows does nothing! and neither does adjusting the brightness slider in the mobility settings.

Short list of problems with M4800 according to thread.

    Lid closing opening issue.
    WANN card BIOS bug.
Left hand palm "cutter corner" :)

nice and friendly system. 2000$ please, anyone?

its never thought through with high end systems it seems that they are always rushed and forgotten.
its 2014! but laptops look like from 1997

No, it BIOS the screen stays black. But at least I can now close and open the lid in Windows without any major issue.

So, how could Dell miss this big of a problem? Did they never close the lid while it was in the bios?

Why would they close the lid in the BIOS ? :) I wonder why they did not test "Do nothing when I close the lid" feature in Windows settings?
Anyways, at least for now we have a workaround for this problem.

Seriously - how often do you find yourself doing this, that it's some sort of deal-breaker?

The point is that is something so basic, let alone the fact it does it in windows.

the point isn't if you do or you dont open or close lid in BIOs or in windows, its fact that when you'll dock your PC you'll close the lid?! and then end up needing to reboot it. all laptops have quirks but this usability quirk that can cause loss of data time which some have some don't. simples. to add I like the engineering that went into this system, but damn they could test it! I just lost 1 month because they didn't? earnings? respect for the brand? I like how quickly Dell replied and solved it via swap for me I doubt Mr Lenovo would do same with thinkpad. I like 3 year warranty and modularity of system.
