My configuration is pretty similar to yours, though I'm not sure about some of the details you mentioned:

    Dell Precision M4800, i7-4800MQ @2.7 GHz, NVIDIA Quadro K2100M, 8GB RAM, QHD+ (3200x1800), 452 GB HDD, Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

I would like to add two things:

    1) Yesterday afternoon, the computer just complete froze at one point after I had walked away for a few minutes. The screen was still on but it was completely unresponsive and the wired USB mouse that was plugged into it had become unpowered. Unplugging and replugging it in did not restore power to it either.

    2) Last night, I left the computer on all night and it turned its screen off, as it's supposed to after being idle for 10 minutes. However, this morning, the screen would not come back on - just like with the closing/opening lid issue. I'm going to try removing the behavior to shut the screen off after 10 minutes and see if that helps.

Yes, I guess the problem is somehow related to combination of NVIDIA Quadro K2100M and QHD+ (3200x1800)

Do you also experience 'blank screen' issue when in Bios ? Thanks

I haven't gone into the bios, so I don't know. Maybe I'll try that on Monday.

Are you still getting your motherboard replaced? You seem to think that won't fix it.

My idea of setting the screen never to shut off didn't help with lid issue.

According to Dell, motherboard is on back order until Jan 29th. I hope replacement will fix the problem.

Motherboard replacement did not fix the issue. Dell is sending me a replacement laptop.

my configuration is m4800 4900MQ 32GB QHD screen and same thing here sits idle for a while goes blank and never wakes up. 2000$ wasted on a wrong laptop again :( ? why rush into production something that causes to much time waste for customers.

Here's an update on my case:

Dell sent a technician who replaced the motherboard, LCD screen, and video card. None of it helped. Now we are sending it to their lab for further testing. Also, the problem does happen while in the BIOS, just like fmark mentioned.

I wonder if this has to do with the stupid 3200x1800 15.6" screen. The screen probably doesn't want to wake up because it's so damn exhausted from running all those unnecessary pixels.

I so not wanted to have this top end machine nightmare again which I had with Thinkpad w510 so I bought this DELL thinking its going to cut those corners.
I have been advised to uninstall and reinstall GFX and chip-set drivers. non of that helps and screen does not wake in bios fans go into Hyper-drive (warp9) all lights are on.
alt-ctrl-del works to reboot it once blanked out, but obviously this does not work in windows as you cant see the task mgr :) Once rebooted after short distortion screen works again. I disagree on the "unnecessary pixels" part with you, but I agree that it may be that this screen is rather Frankenstein addition which has rejection issues.

Time will tell but I am on the verge of return decision in fear of if they will start passing me about.
I will report what my outcome with UK based support is.

    UPDATE:

Dell finally sent technician who replaced motherboard and graphics and like with others it did not help. technician made sure that my laptop is non functional :) from being able to use it with slight issue I have now laptop that has only issues! it does not boot. I am not sure that m4800 can be fixed. I will ask for replacement.
