Thanks! I feel much better now!
My credit card adds another year to the warranty, so I have 4 years of relative peace of mind! :)

Now I wonder where I saw that the customer is responsible for shipping. Maybe it was a nightmare. ;)

Yeah, that would worry me too. I hope your Outlet experience goes well, and you enjoy your system for all four years and beyond :)

I was dissapointed to learn that my Amex doesn't extend warranties on items that are sold as 'refurbished':(

Hm, maybe I'll only have 3 years after all.

I didn't see anything about that listed on their website, but I'm sure there is a lot of small print with exclusions *somewhere*.
Maybe they won't notice the fact it's a refurb after 3 years?

UPDATE: the manufacturing department "lost" the order for the new replacement machine. And my support person got another order put through that is now in production. Now the order they have in for the replacement is spec'd differently than my original refurb. The refurb had 6-cell batt, FX770, back-lit kbd, and 56k modem (among other things), and the replacement is coming with 9-cell batt, FX1700, *no* back-lit kbd, and *no* 56k modem..

I called to inquire about this, and was told the replacement can have same or better specs.. Interesting.. I was also told that they can replace the keyboard of the replacement after it comes (OMG this is getting nutts).

It's funny because I originally chose the 6-cell batt, and FX770 on purpouse to save weight/power cosumption... I don't really want they "upgraded" parts. Also I liked the idea that I was getting a new unit as a replacement, but if they then have to come service it to replace the keyboard, that could end up going awry...

Originally ordered on Dec 31st and and am not even scheduled to get the replacement (with wrong keyboard), until January 28th.. The entire time without a working machine. I wonder if I should just call it off and get a refund?

Wow, well, the keyboard you can probably install yourself, it's easy. I would at least wait and see....

Ask them to have the order expedited - they can get a manager to approve it.

    END OF STORY:
The replacement for my damaged M4400 refurb arrived yesterday- A newly manufactured M4400 with free FX1700 & 9-cell upgrades, and I was able to pull/swap the back-lit keybloard & modem from the refurb before I sent it back (which they suggested I do). In the end a pretty good deal...

Love or hate 'em, but Dell did a pretty impressive thing here! A lot more than that I would have expected from them...then again, I my expectations are pretty low! :p
