Thanks for the coupon! It worked for 20% off. I called and had the rep sort and bring up the LED models as they are hard to identify on the web site. I got a Latitude E6500 refurb for $703 shipped, rigged as follows:

    Intel T9400 2.53
    15.4 WXGA+ LED
    XP Pro
    160 HD 7200rpm
    2 Gig - 1 DIMM
    NVS 160M
    DVD RW
    Intel 5100 AGN
    Bluetooth
    6 Cell
    3 year warranty
    free ship.

I was all set to get Thinkpad W500 via IBM EPP. This saved over $500 + 15.4 inch LED is not available at Lenovo. Hope the referb is in good shape. I look forward to getting the new Dell. Thanks again! :D

I just received my Certified Refurbished M4400, and I have to say this is my first negative experience with the Dell Outlet. I can go into more detail if people want, but lets just say I'll be spending some time on the phone with Tech Support trying to figure out what I can do about it.

Seconded. I've had success buying my "scratch and dent" (ha, it was flawless :D ) latitude d630 from the Outlet and am strongly considering doing the same for my next laptop.

I ordered an M4400 from the outlet on New Years eve. It arrived on January 9th with major problems. First it was shipped in a box about three time larger than the styrofoam forms the notebook was *supposed* to be sitting between. As a result the machine was completely unprotected/unrestrained in a giant box during shipping. It took at least one hit, and the top right corner of the monitor bezel was split open. The other strange thing was they included the wrong power supply- I got the 230W brick which didn't even fit into the laptop. The battery did have a full charge, so I did try booting the machine- at which point I discovered the two buttons at the bottom of the touchpad were complpetely unresponsive. Also the lid would not stay latched when closed. And to top it all off there was no media for the OS included (Vista Ultimate) whatsoever.

I was completely disheartened and called customer service. It took about 30 minutes to get to the correct person where I finally explained everything. They offered to build me the machine new and send it next day air, and take the busted one back at their expense. I agreed, and am now waiting for the new one to arrive. It was supposed to have been built by 1/14 and arrive by 1/15, but is still 'in production'. If the new one arrives and there is nothing wrong I will be satisfied- especially considering the unit will be new and not refurbished. But it hasn't shown up yet.. we'll see...

Wow that sucks! :( I would have been crazy mad but I'm glad they are at least trying to make it up to you. :) Out of curiosity, which condition type was your system from the outlet (previously ordered new, certified refurb, or scratch and dent)

It was refurbished. The last system I got refurbished was an Inspiron 8500 (a loong time ago), and it was as good as new then, and nothing has ever gone wrong with it- in fact I'm typing on it right now! This was the main reason I felt good about going for the M4400 refurbished.. Again we'll see what happens- I'll report back...

Yeah that sounds like the fault of the idiots who packed it, not the fault of the refurbishing process itself. My XPS came in the original box, boxed in a generic corrugated box. Hope your new M44000 comes safely!

Ok... maybe I'm being too picky on some of these, but here goes:

    1. This system should have been sold as Scratch & Dent - scuff marks on the lid, a dent in the palm rest, adhesive and sticker bits on the palm rest, the trim piece that covers the indicator lights was partially detached and sticking up, the cover over the right speaker is not attached correctly and sticks out above the level of the keyboard, there was a fingerprint still on the fingerprint reader...

    2. Putting a CD into the DVD-RW drive caused the tray to partially detach. I was able to get it to go back in, but this worries me. I attempted to install 64-bit Windows Vista, but the system would not recognize the DVD. I attempted to install 64-bit Ubuntu, but the drive would not read the CD. I eventually was able, after multiple attempts, to install 64-bit Vista Ultimate, and I will be recreating the Ubuntu CD just to make sure it wasn't the problem, but I'm still concerned that the drive is not 100% functional.

    3. The system was packaged rather loosely in foam that appeared too large for the system, The foam fit the box well, but the system rattled inside the foam pretty freely. All other parts were present and in good condition, thankfully.

    4. A plethora of other issues that seem to be common to the M4400 - screen graininess, choppy sound, and overheating - the system runs very hot even when idling.

So, yeah, less than satisfied with this outlet purchase, even though my first two (6 years ago and 1.5 years ago) went flawlessly.
