I'll have to do more testing to confirm some of these issues - get some real temperature numbers, for example - but yeah I think I'm definitely gonna have to call Dell and try to get these resolved :/

if the fit and finish isnt right, send it back.

i know its tempting to keep it since you've already waited for it etc, but you really want to get it exchanged or replaced/refunded before its too late

I've been waiting since before Christmas, and my old laptop is dead, leaving me with nothing :( I hate being without a computer, I'm such a geek.

The fan just kicked on with me doing nothing more than browsing the web :(

yea i understand, but its not exactly pocket change, and you're gonna be keeping it for 2-3 years or more, so make sure you get one that works properly

WOW! I cant believe that your laptop arrived like that! I would have been so angry. Loose panels, etc. are simply unacceptable. The fact that your system wasn't a scratch and dent is even worse (although this system probably shouldnt have been sold under that category)

Hopefully things will turn out better

Ok, spoken with Dell... they want me to test the video card too, before they replace the whole system. What's the best test suite? Right now I'm planning on just running Far Cry (the first one) on max settings and seeing how long I get before it downclocks.

Edit: so far they're planning on replacing "power adapter, back LCD plastics, palmrest, bottom plastics, motherboard, heatsink and fan" - and, I assume, DVD-RW drive, although the tech forgot to mention that... at that rate, wouldn't it be easier to just give me a new one?

I purchased a E6500 refurb on the 7th, and have experienced random freezes every now and then. No rhyme or reason... I called Dell and they're sending a guy out with new MB, RAM, and HD to replace....

I was able to return the e6500 I bought through the normal dell site and got a refurb e6500 for about half the cost. Only issue now is the high latency and sometimes the laptop freezes when I plug in my e-sata hdd. Never had any issues with random freezes. Good luck with the replacements.

A unit that comes wonking out within the first month is an automatic "return" for me for either a brand new unit or a refund.
