For using the fingerprint reader, you need to use the Embassy Security Suite to get it going. From there you can register fingerprints for pre-boot and stuff. You need to go into Bios if you want to use the other features as they need the Trusted Platform chip enabled. I have had fun playing with it, I have several passwords stored and they automatically fill when you go to the particular web site.

I have the 9cell bat with a 7200 Hard Drive... Does anyone notice a vibration when touching the battery? It anoys me enough that I do not rest my palms on the extended portion of the battery.

All in all... The best laptop I have ever owned. This might be the closest I have come to desktop performance. I have been using it docked and do not notice much difference from my Core 2 Duo 2.4 desktop.

i have the 9-cell with a 5400rpm HD with only slight vibration on the palm rest and extended battery portion. even with the battery removed and running off AC the vibration is still present. i've yet to figure out if it's the drive, CPU fan or a combination thereof.

To get the auto ambient light adjustment for the screen to work. You must have it unplugged. Unplug the AC adapter, and then try the auto light sensing. It should work. My works fine, and most of the times matches with my preferences.

I've already used up 50GB...

I suspect it has something to do with a failed partition I made. I was planning to install XP on it, but realized I only had the XP 'upgrade' CD, so I just left the partition as it was...?

I dunno. I'll figure it out when I actually need the space.

My D630 runs a bit hot, the cpufan don't start until the temp goes up a bit. I tried i8kfan utility but it dont seem to fully support the new santa rosa chip. Any other fan speed control software out there?

I am not sure why your laptop runs hot. My laptop's hard drive does not exceed 43 degrees and the CPU does not go much above 50 degrees.
