    Hi Everyone,

I just received my D630 in the mail today. I've been fishing around the boards to get good information and feedback from other D630 owners. I especially want to give thanks to FrostKnight for posting such an informative review (it really helped with the purchasing decision).

Now seems to be the time where most of the NVS 135M units are shipping/arriving. I thought with the said graphics card issues, etc. it would be nice to have ONE location to come and chat about our new laptops. My apologies if this exists (just axe it and show me the other thread). With that said, here are my specs:

    Intel Core 2 Duo T7300, 2.00GHz, 800MHz 4M L2 Cache
14.1 inch Wide Screen WXGA+ LCD
    2.0GB, DDR2-667 SDRAM, 2 DIMM
    128MB NVIDIA Quadro NVS 135M
    80GB Hard Drive 9.5MM 7200RPM
    Vista Home Basic
    Dell Slim Auto/Air/AC Adapter
    8X DVD+/-RW
    Intel 4965 WLAN (802.11a/g/n)
6-Cell/56 WHr Primary Battery Latitude D630

I'm really excited seeming this is my first laptop. I do have a couple questions off the bat...

1.) I have an option of purchasing Vista Premium from school. What are your thoughts on the upgrade...should I hold out for other drivers drivers? Is my system capable of running the version?

2.) Has anyone experienced any serious issues thus far that they know I should correct at this point? (e.g. The sound issue some have noted)

Thanks all for your input. From what I read, this seems like a great forum.

    Cheers

Just got mine set up yesterday and there's a big issue with the washed-out screen and laggy graphics.

For the graphics, I'm not as concerned, as it seems to be a driver problem. However, even on XP (I upgraded to vista later), the screen was washed out and blurry -- definitely not sharp.

I'm trying to find out who manufactured the screen. The part # is: 320-5289 14.1 inch Wide Screen WXGA+ LCD for Latitude D631

This may be a replacement issue, if there are no work-arounds

I just received a Dell D630 last week

    Intel Core 2 Duo T7300, 2.00GHz, 800MHz 4M L2 Cache
14.1 inch Wide Screen WXGA+ LCD
    2.0GB, DDR2-667 SDRAM, 2 DIMM
    80GB Hard Drive 9.5MM 7200RPM
    Vista Business
    8X DVD+/-RW
    Intel 4965 WLAN (802.11a/g/n)
    Bluetooth
    Sprint broadband
6-Cell/56 WHr Primary Battery Latitude D630

    Thus far:
Battery life is excellent (for my needs 2:30h per session)
Screen is excellent (I am used to WUXGA, this screen is clean and bright)

Agreed. The screen on my D630 is excellent. A bit small, but I don't think I'll live to see the day someone can make a big 14.1" screen :D

When I get home I'll check what screen type I have. Maybe there's a difference between the Samsung and the other one?

You can check on your service tag.

My screen mfg. is: PY726 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 14.1WXGA+, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC., CHI MEI OPTOELECTRONICS

Do you think the samsung is better?

Just came yesterday and pretty much love it

    Intel Core 2 Duo T7300, 2.00GHz, 800MHz 4M L2 Cache
14.1 inch Wide Screen WXGA+ LCD
    2.0GB, DDR2-667 SDRAM, 2 DIMM
    128MB NVIDIA Quadro NVS 135M
    80GB Hard Drive 9.5MM 7200RPM
    Vista Ultimate
    8X DVD+/-RW
    Dell 802.11g
9-Cell/56 WHr Primary Battery Latitude D630

Battery life is amazing and the screen is really bright and sharp but the colors feel a little off but i think a little color calibration should fix it and I really like the keyboard compared to some of my friends HPs and Inspirons

Do you know which screen you have?

I'm trying to determine which is best. The Chi Mei screen I have is definitely poor. I'm not sure if Samsung or Qanta is better.

My screen is crisp and bright--I just checked my service tag and it says CHI MEI OPTOELECTRONICS. Maybe try reinstalling the nividia driver...I can't imagine why it would be that way. Possibly faulty?

Speaking of drivers, has anyone heard of a better one from the one available on Dell's website? I have a Vista Index of 3.2 which I'd imagine should be higher (2ghz, 2gig ram, dedicated graphics)

Hi there. I, too, am getting a base Index of 3.2 (Graphics part) with the NVIDIA 135M.

I'm trying to figure out how to increase this...if at all possible?

Where do I find out what/who my screen manufacturer is?

    Best,
    Ilham
