I have the CMO1428 monitor - I checked using the device manager.

    No light leakage, great screen.

Hmm, I don't understand. Did you change any of the font settings?

The light leakage isn't as much of a problem as the blurriness/fuzziness.

I cannot find the Device manager in XP. How can I find out which monitor I have using XP?

What resolution do you have? I have the something + screen, 1440 x 900 pixels. Is yours different? Maybe increase/decrease resolution?

Right click on "my computer" > properties > hardware > device manager

Try to uninstall the drivers, and then install the new ones.

Did you replace the inf file with the custom one?

Yes, I do have the WXGA+ screen. I have disabled cleartype and used classic text smoothing instead. This helps for in-window fonts, however things such as tabs in firefox and the taskbar still look blurry. I know this is a cleartype issue, but in general this screen is just not up to par.

You didn't make any color or contrast adjustments?

Icculus - I have the same screen manufacturer as you and haven't had any of those said problems--that's with zero settings changes made since I opened it yesterday.

Cobalic - Let me know if you give the driver switch another shot and if there's a noticable difference. I am running Vista Ultimate w/ Aero on and mine is running very smoothly--maybe a noticable lag once, but I was running IE and installing programs. I'll let you all know if this changes as I use the system more in the next week, adding programs, etc.

Note: I didn't clean install; however, I imagine it can only help the laptop's performance (less memory/cpu usage) but I'm not sure if it would increase Index Scores with those being hardware based.

hmm this is very bizarre. In firefox, does the menu appear blurry at all?

I have the new part coming, so I guess it can't hurt... just hope it's not a downgrade

Nope, that seems to be clear also. It is noted on Firefox's website that it's reccommended for XP, so maybe there are possible issues. Seeming the problem goes outside of the browser for you, I'd imagine that's not the case.

Yeah, I think it's best that you have a replacement at least lined up. Are they making you exchange the entire laptop?
