I think a lot of people would prefer not to have the fingerprint reader installed by default. It takes a while to setup and u have to go through some tutorials.
Maybe thats why Dell don't install it themselves.

Anyway, i installed it and enable the tpm chip and its working great.
Thanks for the information on how to make this work

oh, if that was what cobalic was referring to then yes, that's the exact reason they don't install it for you. It's a requires a tutorial to learn the basic function of the TPM. If it was installed, people would be asking, "wait, how am i supposed to enroll my fingerprint?"

I figured out how to use the TPM and my fingerprint reader, so everything worked out just. :)

now that everything has been happily resolved, onto other matters :)

has anyone noticed the fan 'clicking' when switching on and off? the sound isn't terribly loud, but i worry that it is a portend to a future fan failure.

I noticed that the ALS only works when you're running on battery. Whenever the laptop's plugged in, all other options are disabled.

When operating on battery and the ALS is active, though, it transitions and adapts to different lighting conditions VERY smoothly. Unfortunately, also VERY subtly... the shift is almost indistinguishable, and you can only tell the change if you look really hard at the screen while it's shifting. The differences are too subtle to be of any real use to me. Especially since the majority of my computer use is either in a dimly lit room (Read: bedroom) or at my darkened office corner (Read: living room).

Both screens are good. CMO offers a bit better contrast but a tint more graininess.
