Not to be a vista-hater, but I wouldn't be surprised if your problems with bootup were simply vista being vista.

yeah, i think it is vista being vista.

I have found some improvements over night. I did a defrag which took 4 hours so clearly there was some stuff to sort out there.

I also removed unwanted services and really stripped down my startup processes.

Finally I uninstalled the programmes which had been added recently. This meant bye bye to zone alarm and spy bot, together with a few other little things. Result is the boot has reduced to 55 seconds.

Bottom line, I think, is to keep extra programmes to a minimum, Vista seems unable to cope with them all fighting for space on start up. I reckon the biggest culprit was Zone Alarm but I am sure it was not alone...

I am tempted to just stick with the windows firewall now, unless any of you think that would be crazy???

    Enjoy your weekend...!

I'm using Windows Firewall right now, ever since Comodo V3 came out and messed up my other computer, I'm waiting until the improved version is released. I really havent had any problems with Windows Firewall though.

Finally placed an order yesterday for a D630 based on educational pricing. ETA 12/21.

For you guys that use a sleeve for the laptop, what do you guys have? Need one which the laptop would fit in there snugly. Prefably a neoprene one.

While doing a clean reinstall of Vista I lost all my Dell wallpapers that were present in my preinstalled OS. Does anyone know where I can get these? :(
