    Hy Guys,
I have a D630 and am not happy with my WXGA+ Screen from AUO. It has kinda washed out colors and the viewing angle is bad.

    Did you have similar probs?

Hi Sascha. I have the CMO (Chi-Mei Opt..) screen and am happy with it.

Is it possible for you to call up Dell and ask for a replacement screen, particularly the CMO? I'm not sure if all CMO screens are good, or all AUO are bad/good, but it is worth a try.

I think the LCD is important since you will be the one looking at the screen! Maybe your screen is just a bad one? Exchange for another AUO?

    Best,
    Ilham

Also, I hear that SEC screens (Samsung) are nice. I am actually typing on a D630 at work using the SEC screen, and it is just as nice as my D630 at home using the CMO screen.

    Best,
    Ilham

Control Panel-->System-->Device Manager-->Click on "Monitor", select it.

Double-click on that monitor selection. In the "Details" tab, you should see a series of letters and numbers. If you see CMO, SEC, or AUO, I think.

    Best,
    Ilham

    hey guys,

ive had my d630 for a few months now and have noticed that the fan continuously runs and the computer gets very hot at the back left even with little use. The fan pretty much turns on in under a minute of the computer being booted. I downloaded a program called speedfan to measure component temperature and have noticed that a red fire sign pops up on the ACPI device with a temp reading of 51c and the nvidia video card with a temp of 65c. Just wondering if you guys are getting similar readings on your d630??

Also i have found that my hard drive makes intermittent high pitched metallic squeaks/scratchy noises that last for no more than a millisecond and intermittnet tapping sounds which last no more than a millisecond. At first they only occurred sparingly, but now seems to occur quite a bit.. Further to this i find that the hard drive seems to load quite a bit even if i'm not really doing anything. Anyone else experiencing this?? Speedfan reads the hdd temp at 38c which is shows to be normal. what reading do you guys get??

    hi there,

sorry for the abreged reply, it's very late here in the uk.

Best fan management programme is l8kfangui. My machine runs virtually silent on it. Select the "Normal" fan management plan.

Also, if you have the power management set to high performance, it will send your processor up to 70deg. The dell Balanced setting or even the low battery setting keep the machine cool and, for every day usage, are way more than sufficient.

The hard drive clicking is an annoyance of vista, which is constanly indexing the files on your computer, esp when you seem to be doing nothing. It calms down significantly after a few weeks but will still tick away. I think it's a small price to pay to have the fast search facility Vista offers...

    Hope that helps.

    All the best

    Nick

    Hey Nick,

Many thanks for your reply. Just installed that l8kfangui program. its very good. I set the operating mode to automatic temperature control and selected Normal policy. However, it was only set to enable control on the CPU only. I enabled control for the remaining components gpu, memory and chipset and set it to the exact same settings as the CPU one.. is that wise or should fans pop on sooner with different components etc?? what settings have you got in place?

in regards to the HDD problem, im actually running XP pro does xp do an indexing thing like vista? The sound im referring to is much louder than the normal hard drive tapping/loading sound. its a distinct electric zapping/metal scraping sound that pops up now and then and only last for a split second.. its beyond annoying.

i actually only control the fan with l8K as I find it's all I need in order to keep the fan from running annoyingly... Yes, i have it on automatic temp control, normal setting. I may even have pulled the temperatures down a step or two. It's a bit trial and error but my cpu never goes above 50 deg now so the fast fan never kicks in (I say never but of course if I am video editing for example, it will rise to 70deg).

As for the hard drive, that doesn't sound great and i would def speak to dell about it as your system is under warranty. It may be absolutely nothing but it may also be sign of a HD which could go soon. Best to check with them, they have a diagnostic programme installed which they can run with you over the phone and it will tell them if there is anything fundamentally wrong with the drive. If the diagnostics come up clear, my guess is that it would be a build issue i.e. something not quite sitting right in the box...

    Hope that helps

    Nick

ps - nice of you to say thank you for the reply. Bugs me in here that some people ask questions, get their reply and either never post again or just come back looking for more info, without thanking the poster who replied!!
