    hello again everybody!

I am a little concerned that my laptop seems to be running hot. Having installed a cpu temperature monitor, it is running constantly at 50+ deg. This seems high to me. Am I right?

I have installed a fan control programe but this kicks in at 45deg so the fan seems to be constantly whirring. What can I do about this? Does this mean that my laptop is too hot and i should get it checked?

I can change the options in the fan control programme. How high is it safe to let a cpu go before having the fan on?? 45? 50? 60??

Many thanks in advance for your help!!

    Nick

    Thanks.

U will have to give me a step by step instruction on how to do this:
When you mean System tray, do you mean System in Control Panel ?

You could get to it from the Mouse applet in the Control Panel, but I was actually referring to a little icon down by the clock in the notification area of the system tray (lower right of your screen). However you get to it, you should end up with a settings screen. Using the default drivers, there should be 4 (I believe) icons on the main screen of that settings window. The first one in the upper left has the options to turn off various aspects of the touchpad/pointer stick system. Again though, you can only turn each component of the pointer stick on or off from this screen, you can't disable tapping with the normal drivers. Let me know if I need to explain more :)

Normally 60+ C is considered hot; anything under that should be fine. And that's for a desktop. Laptop's often will run hotter just because there's so little room for cooling stuff. So basically you should be fine with those temps, don't worry about it.

    thanks fifteen...

does anyone know if there is a way of setting the power plan to change automatically depending on whether i am on mains or battery power? At the moment it seems i have to do this manually but I may be missing something, although I have looked in the control panel settings...

Any help much appreciated as always!

    Many thanks

Hi everyone. I'm planning to get a D630, but have a battery life question. What's the overall battery life with the 9-cell battery and the Nvidia card?

    booboo12--

Battery life is one of the strong suits of the D630. I can get between 5-6 good hours on my D630 with 9 cell/Nvidia Card. That's with wi-fi on and the brightness a notch or two above the battery default.

    dordale :)

nickcoffer--In XP, you can right click on your desktop, choose properties and on the screen-saver tab, there is a "power" button. You can make changes under here for both when your laptop is plugged in and running on batteries.

I'm not sure about Vista, but would assume that there's something similar.

    dordale :)
