Thanks for replying. Can I ask a stupid question?!

There are 38 updates on dell's site for the 630. If a machine is being built now, why would it not have all the up-to-date updates on it? I appreciate that the bios update only came out last week so that might be too recent but all the other ones seem they should be part of the current install process, no?

nickcoffer, manufacturers prepare an image and don't update it that often, thus requiring the customer to update the manufacturer's software, as well as, the OS itself.

Agree it's rather cumbersome, but once done there are improvements and that's what one wants.

Good luck with your new system.

My D630 was up to date when it arrived in October.

Some new software updates recently posted on Dell.com for the D630:

    BIOS is now A04

I know I've already posted about my new notebook in the appropriate thread, but my D630 is so great I HAVE To write it here as well. :)

BTW tried modded driver (169.04) for the GPU and my Vista Experience Index (or whatever it's called) for desktop performance went from 3,2 to 4,0 - that's quite a leap. :)

the keyboard does get warm but it is very slight and on the left side...i didn't notice it until you pointed it out actually, and the back left does get hotter but not too hot to touch

i tried out the d430 touchpad drivers and, as nice as the extra features are, the movement seemed 'clunkier' so i switched back

the video card driver update is well worth it, my WEI went from 3.2 to 4
