Yup. You can do it with the Dell drivers for the D630, although I recommend the drivers for the D430 instead. For the regular drivers, open the settings window from the icon in the system tray, and you should have the option to turn off what parts of the mouse you don't like from the first icon. I personally turned off the tapping feature of the blue button, but kept it and its right/left buttons on. Less annoying but still useful for me. You need the D430 drivers to do that though.

    hello again,

3 days in with my 630 and on the whole a really good system, only 9 days from order to despatch.

NOT happy with Vista though, seems really buggy... I have three issues and i'd be extremely grateful if anyone could help me with any of them:

I am trying to take data from the old hard drive from my old laptop (it's in an enclosure). I keep getting told i do not have the permissions. I have worked out how to permit an indivudual file but with 10 000 files in total, this could be a long job! Does anyone know how to just unlock the whole drive? I have tried changing the sharing settings plus the permissions but it just doesnt seem to want to apply them to the whole drive! arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!

Has anyone noticed that the wireless seems to drop for no apparent reason? Any idea why? The only repair I can find is to reboot. Have changed the settings for network cards when on battery but this problem happens on AC power too...

finally my hard drive keeps ticking. Looked online and it seems this is a vista trait, it may be busy indexing and this can take a week to settle down! Anyone else had a similar experience?

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

    All the best

    Nick

    Hi nickcoffer

Have you updated BIOS and drivers to their latest versions?

I recall the wireless issue getting sorted out once drivers were updated...

thanks a lot for the answer, the bios arrived bang up to date so i assumed the rest was too. However, I'll download the wireless drivers just in case. Any thoughts on this file permissions problem? It's driving me crazy!!

I would suggest getting your wireless drivers off of the Intel website, as they are multiple revisions ahead of what Dell offers. Go here to grab them from the Intel site.

I, too, am having some issues with Vista Business on my D630.

It does seem to be a bit flaky..

Can someone recommmend a stable version & type of Vista - is it Vista Ultimate, or something else ?

    Thanks - Mave

For a stable version of vista ... personally I'd recommend just sticking with XP. Or if you're willing Ubuntu Linux is a great solution; way more stable than Windows from my experience, and more fun to use :)

As for the ticking HD ... that could be a sign of very bad things to come. I'd suggest you figure out what company manufactured your HD, go to their website and download their HD testing software, burn it onto a cd, boot off of it, and run the full test on your HD to make sure it's not about to crap out on you.
