I had heat issues but that is supposedly not normal. The replacement ships on the 12th so we'll see

Other than that, it seems like a great computer

No issues with heat really; CPU, fan and disk (7200) are damn silent.

I'd suggest going for the WXGA+ - great value for little difference. Still unsure whether the UPEK reader is worthwhile though.

Well, after much research I just ordered the D630 below.

I chose the 1505N card because I figured the 3 wire antennae was more important for future upgrade. The 4965 wasn't offered when I ordered.

Not sure which wireless router to get (for 1505 card) until the N routers improve?

    1 Intel® Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100

You had the issue with the bottom getting hot, right? The one I got is the same. It's not burning hot but quite warm. The fan does a fairly good job of keeping it from getting super-hot though, even under load.

The 2 I have been sent were unreasonably hot. The first one was a little hotter than the 2nd, and the fan made noise which apparently isn't normal for the d630.

The 2nd one runs maybe slightly cooler, but when i iopened it up there were fingerprint smudges on the screen and what looks to be a small crack forming on the right bottom corner of the case.

3rd one is on the way, so we'll see

    Hi Guys, I just got my D630 with the following specs;

    Dell D630
    C2D T7300
    14.1 WXGA+
    80GB@7200RPM
    2GB@667 MHZ
    128MB 135M
    Bluetooth
    8X DVD+/-RW

I was wondering if anyone else has a pretty loud 8X DVD+/-RW drive. Whenever I put a disc in of any sort (game or music) I hear two pretty loud clicking noises coming from the drive and then a bunch more when it is loading the disc. Does anyone else experience this?

Also that same drive comes up as hardware with the "safely remove hardware" icon on my desktop up at all times, but the only "hardware" that is under it is the 8X DVD drive, is that normal?

Other than that I love this thing. Great build quality and it is super fast. The only other problem I have is that Dell did not give me the bluetooth disc that is required to activate the bluetooth on the laptop, but that is not the laptops fault, it's Dell's!

Both disk drives on the 2 D630's were pretty loud yea. The Vostro 1400 had the same thing

I don't recall the remove hardware issue.

edit: i meant disk drives, not hard drives;/
