Nope. The stability issues existed outside Vista.

I am sad to report that 3 of my most prized possesions, my D630, my trusty Inspiron 9300 and my beloved Axim X51v were all stolen from my residence in Saudi while I was in Bahrain for the weekend. Thankfully, the bios and HDD of the D630 were locked. I hope they cannot be cracked. The Axim was running WM6 and the Inspiron was open but had no data on it.

I mourn for my pimped up D630 :( and I am typing this post on my Wii. Sigh. Guess this signals my exit from this thread.

I'm very sorry for all the situation and the added inconveniences, but still trust you'll be around with a brand new D630 in no time, from one of those Dell promos.

Your input is valuable and you're most welcome, keep posting !

    Hi,
can someone post here his score with D630 with nvs135? I have about 660 in 3Dmark06 in Windows Vista but it's very big difference between this score and usual score of nvs140 (about 1400 - 1500). i heard that it's possible to have about 1100 in Windows XP.

I just scored a 1333 on windows xp and 3dmark05, so I don't know if that's remotely comparable to vista with 3dmark06. Though I thought my computer did better than that. I'm also not really using the default drivers, which should change things a bit.

If you see using a dock someday. Otherwise the 65w will do fine.

I have currently just deployed a new fleet of D630 and I am happy with the build quality, performance and general value of the notebooks

    T7100/T7300
    1GB/2GB
    80gb 5400 RPM
    DVD/Combo
    9 Cell battery
Vista Business Downgrade XP Pro (2 sets of media)

Most impressive of which is the battery life. Despite the additional 200g over the 6 cell, most of my users haven't complained about the weight factor after they reliased the stellar battery performance. 7-8 hours on the 9 cell is normal with screen brights on half and wifi on.

The 14.1 wide screen (1280x800) is a good compromize between size/weight and the "I cant really read" 12.1 ultraportables.

My unit had a 9 cell and spare 6 cell modular battery, for 13 hours of battery life.

The new 630s complement our older fleet of 5/6/820s that we have in service.

I have no issues with the corporate tech service.

However I noticed that the D series have some issues with hinges coming loose, and have seen then on several D620 and a 6 month old D620 ATG. Not seen them on the new D630s but we will wait and see.

So would a D630 that becomes extremely warm/borderline hot, 5-10 minutes after start up, with very very little use, be considered normal?

Thats not normal. The D630 usually runs very cool.

It only gets a little hot under the case, where the battery is when it is charging.

Try checking your power/performance settings. You might have forced it to run at full speed. (ie. speedstep disabled..etc)

Hmm, I'll check that out. This was right out of the box though...
