I agree with fifteen10e56...I don't have my bios set to "quiet mode", but I don't hear any clicking noises either. Better to be safe than sorry!

Well I was sent a new HD and i just recieved it in 1 business day that is pretty darn fast my complaint is that its a Refurbished Fujitsu drive when I currently have a WD drive, I was told that I would recieve the same HD the rep I talked to stated it would be of the same manufacturer as well, but i guess that is a non issue, as benchmarks wise they are evenly matched.

Although a refurbed drive as a replacement is an issue indeed! I dont wanna sound like a ungrateful customer its just i expected I would at least recieve a brand new drive, what should i do?

well I ended up putting in the refurb hard drive. Then I benchmarked it in HD Tune and HD Tach, its burstspeed is less than half of my old WD drive(the one that was making the clicking) ... its an overall slower drive. But the clicks are now gone...

how long have you had your d630? anything replaced within the first 30 days must be 100% brand new. If it's afterwards, you may try to talk a rep into sending you a WD. Good luck

Quite honestly, I doubt you'll ever notice a difference between the two HDs. Theoretical benchmarks seem to rarely turn into large differences in the real world.

Speaking of HD clicking noises and BIOS settings :

I replaced the stock 80GB 5400rpm with a 200GB 7200rpm, and was surprised at how much noisier it was, when most reports I have read around here say that it shouldn't be.

Long story short, I ended up in the BIOS settings, and to my surprise it was the "Performance" setting that quieted the drive.

I haven't tried the "Quiet" setting yet, but the noise reduction moving into "Performance" already attenuated to a level I could accept, while being quieter than being on "Bypass".

Just a few observations from someone looking for an excuse to bang on this glorious keyboard.

    Best,
    Paolo

I just noticed that when I have earbuds plugged into my computer (which end up making everything a ton louder, so probably the same thing happens with the speaker when it's turned up really loud) and I touch the touchpad I get this buzzing sound for a few seconds. It only starts when I touch the touchpad, and goes away a second or so after I remove my finger from the touchpad. Anyone else experiencing something similar?

I have had my D630 for a couple of months and I have noticed that it does get uncomfortably warm. I never hear the fan though.

I have had tons of stability issues that weren't there with the stock 2GB config. I tried many different things to isolate the issue (including running memtest on my 2x2GB RAM modules--no issues) but nothing came up. I finally ended up running it on two 1x1GB of older DDR2 sticks from my Dothan Inspiron 9300. The laptop became stable again. No more processes hanging and blue screens left and right. I then switched back to my 2GB sticks except I put them in one at a time.

Conclusion (this is with OCZ 667MHz 2GB DIMMS): As long as I run only 2GB, everything is fine. The moment I run the memory in dual-channel mode with two sticks, the problems come back. I have no idea why this is happening as individually, the sticks are fine.

Has anyone had any issues with running 4GB of RAM?

Otherwise, I am thrilled with my D630. It ain't pretty but it is solid. And I get ridiculous battery life with my two batteries together. It touches 6+ hours with constant WiFi and music streaming.

That could be you hitting Windows' 4gb memory limit for 32bit operating systems and then that causing something screwy to happen. Though that's just a wild guess. Are you running any programs that would use a lot of your ram when that happens?
