I wonder if the upcoming E7440 will be exclusively 15W U series chips or will include the 28W U series as well? A Core i7-4558U would be absolutely awesome as an option; bit better graphics, higher base clock and a TDP still low enough for decent batter in a larger size ultrabook like the e7440.

According to my dell rep, the E7440 and E7240 series will only have the 15/17W series chips

Guessing no discrete GPUs either, then.

That's a serious shame. The base clock speed drops in the Ivy Bridge -> Haswell refresh hurts power users. This is okay on MacBook air / Samsung Series 9 size machines where battery life / size is the most important, but on a 0.8" thick 14" ultrabook, I would certainly hope they can fit a little faster CPU in there. (Not to mention the better graphics).

Again according to our dell account rep, the E7x40 series only has integrated GPU, no discrete. and no MSATA in the MPCIE slot.

I'm a power user and would really like something that is the E7440 form factor with a 1920x1200 screen, plus ability to run a 256gb or larger mPCIE SSD and a regular 2.5" 1TB HD, along with a discrete GPU and 16GB+ RAM. as I run several VM's on my current machine for dev/testing. (currently on a E6220)

I may have to go with a E6440 instead, but really dislike the additional weight.

Given the market Id be OK with Iris, but the HD Graphics the ULVs have is still fairly called .

Agreed; I could live without a discreet GPU if I could have a i7-4558U in it.

thenew3 -- did your rep confirm anything about the 8gb vs 16gb of RAM issue? The leaked slides implied only 8gb, but if it has normal ram slots I'd expect it would support 16gb. (That would be another major knock against it if it did not for some reason though)

He didn't know about RAM. He wasn't sure if it was soldered, or of it had regular sodimm slots. He said its likely whatever the 6430u has is what the 7440 will have.

The 6430u has two DIM slots and supports up to 16GB. Which is what I've just ordered! Prefer the all back design to the new silver lid. Haswell won't be that much of a leap forward.

Any thoughts on if we will see the 7440 this week? I'm hopeful!
