I just received my 1400 last week and QuickSet for Vostro 1000 seems to work fine on it. I can use the WiFi catcher, there are familiar progress bars that are shown when I adjust the volume or brightness using the media keys and the Fn+ keys. Is there other functionality that QuickSet provides that I'm missing?

Let me clarify a little bit. The Vista version of Quickset is common for Vostro 1000/1400/1500. While the XP version of Quickset only work in Vostro 1000/1500 but not 1400 (at least up to now).

I just took a screenshot of Dell QuickSet running on my Vostro 1400 (shipped with Vista but now formatted to XP): http://www.85m.com/junk/quickset%20on xp.PNG

Note the volume bar in the top right (responds to the keys found at the top of the Vostro 1400 keyboard).

Great. Thanks AlexV. So you've tried the QuickSet Applet to set location profile? This is most useful for me as I bring my Vostro to work. The profile will automatically change default printer for me depending which location I am at.

So I went ahead and reformatted my vostro 1400 and put XP pro on it with media direct. I have everything working for the most part now; quickset, audio, and modem. However, Bluetooth refuses to be recognized. I have gotten three separate bluetooth device driver packs for various dell machines (including the 1500) but have not had any luck. Does anyone know a way to get the BT to work?

Isn't there a site on Dell that just lists all the drivers for the Vostro? I found a link on Dell that just gave all the drivers for XP for the vostro 1400. Or do these drivers don't work?

It's only a handful of drivers, not the full set you need for 100% device support in XP.

Hence by mixing and matching drivers from the Vostro 1500/1000 and Inspiron 1420 which are very similar hardware-wise, you get a fully functioning set.
