    Hi Guys

I am from Malaysia and we have a forum in www.lowyat.net just search for XP SATA. I am using XP Pro with my Vostro 1400. The very first step is insert the Media Center CD in then when boot up window press F12 to select boot from CD. Follow instruction to partition/format the hard disk then install the OS. Hope this help. Happy Trying. Though I can have more softwares with XP but I miss the awsome effect in Vista....

Okay, let me put all my problems and whatever i did in detail again.

I bought a Dell vostro 1400 and it reached me yesterday. Originally loaded with Vista. I need to run some applications from office, so need XP for that.

Went through this thread and the other thread on 1420 as well, prepared XP CD with SATA driver slipstreamed into it. Now I formatted the drive and installed XP. It was setup successfully. Installed all the drivers, (first I followed the 1420 post and second time i installed all drivers from Dell site). After driver installation, I reboot and just when XP comes to the desktop, blue screen of death comes and it restarts. :( :(

Can someone please help me. Am struck with it for last 2 days.. haven't used the new laptop as well :( :(

    Thanks in advance..

    Hey!!

i was able to solve the issue. it was being caused by Zone Alarm firewall :( :( strange.. very strange... maybe the version i have is not supported on xp + sp3 or my hardware or whatever.... now i am in search of good, light weight firewall :)

    Thanks yall for nice posts.

Just wondering for people who reformatted with Windows XP on their Vostro 1400, how is the stability? Like did you guys ever get BSOD, or corrupt files?

Are their any drivers that don't work well in Windows XP?

Windows Vista is really making me mad... I need to reformat because Windows Services keep crashing and I've googled for results, but no solution to the problem.
