There's a recovery partition but you don't need it if your laptop comes with the Vista dvd (mine did). I'd see no problem in returning a laptop if it has XP on it, as they'll probably format it straight away.

If you call up for technical support, they'll probably tell you to first reinstall the original OS (Vista) to see if your problems are solved, before they take it any further (repairs, etc).

No big deal. If anything happens you can just back up your data and quickly put Vista back on via dvd.

The links to the web cam application and alternative to the high-definition audio don't work.

And maybe the forum should create a petition to get Dell to develop and release the XP drivers for the Vostro, XPS and Inspiron line of notebooks, as the support is surely lacking right now. Granted, the systems do come with a decent operating system but driver and software incompatibility and slow performance is currently preventing Vista from being an acceptable solution when there is XP, Unix, etc.

My brother keeps bugging me to return my Vostro, but I'm going to need a nice portable system to take to Iraq next week.

I got everything to work first try with no audio driver failures on my Vostro 1400

Props! Works great, I even get more FPS in games. But I do miss how pretty vista was

I, like many others, am not able to get QuickSet working on the Vostro 1400 with XP. Has anyone figured out the trick to getting QuickSet running and avoiding the "system not supported" error?

^^^the only two things missing from this guide and support from Dell are the notebook software and quickset.

I've gotten all of the drivers to work on my system, and I know longer get the standby issue. Loving the Vostro 1400...

    Hi Guys

I installed R151519.exe, now the wireless shows up. But MODEM is not visible in the Device Manager. Which Driver/Utility needed for MODEM?

Originally I had Conexant HDA D330 MDC V.92 Modem on my Vista OS.

    thanks in advance
    Reji

Get Dell QuickSet for Windows XP here:
    http://search.dell.com/results.aspx...~srd=False&ipsys=False&advsrch=False&~ck=anav

Or just go to dell drivers and downloads, search for "quickset", filter by Windows XP, and sort by date.
