Maybe the magic ratio is real, but just not exactly what you thought it was as there is still the case of better results with lower clocks in there...

Alright, definitive proof. The memory of the 8400M GS in the M1330 is GDDR3. Using this photo I took along with Hynix's specification sheet, we get:

    Hynix GDDR3, VDD=1.8V & VDDQ=1.8V, 512M 8K Refresh/32ms, x32, 8 Banks, POD_18, 3rd Gen., FBGA (Wire Bond), Lead free, 700MhZ, Commercial (0℃~70℃)

The memory is rated at 700MHz (or 1400MHz DDR) so there's quite a bit of headroom, as everyone's been seeing. I figure the memory in the Vostro 1500/Inspiron 1520 8400M GS's may not be GDDR3 as some had trouble hitting even 600MHz.

Can those clock speed be applied to something else than a Dell? I've got a dv2500t with a 8400m gs I guess it comes with gddr2...

Unfortunately, there's no way to be certain short of opening up the laptop and taking a look at the RAM modules.

    Hi Chuck.

I know I'm going off topic again...but if the GDDR3 in the M1330 is capable of going 700 mHz, should the GDDR3 ram in the Quadro 135m in the D630 able to go that high as well?

    Thanks.

If I recall correctly, the NVS 135M is based on the 8400M GS. Even still, there's no guarantee that they use the same VRAM modules in all the models. The only way you can be sure is to open it up and check the markings on the RAM.

The only reason I say this is because one person with the 8400M GS in the Inspiron 1520, I believe, couldn't even push the memory up past 600MHz, indicating that not all of them are outfitted with GDDR3.

My Vostro 1500 memory will not clock higher than 530 (using ATITool)

What happened to those pictures of temp reducing shims?

On my M1330 i can't go over 560MHz on the Core (using ati tool), I get artifacts at 562-564MHz, the memory however I can have at 800MHz (not tried any higher) without getting any artifacts when my core is at 560MHz.

Anyone else with a M1330 gone much higher than 560MHz Core? Did you have to mod the voltage? Is it safe to mod the voltage on these cards? I can't seem to find a way to do it with Ati Tool, do I need some other software, or can I just put it into the profiles.ini in Ati Tool?

I'm interested in overclocking my 8400M GS, but I'm not sure I like the idea of opening my vostro and adding the necessary paste and shims (esp. since I don't happen to have old dell shims just lying around). Would those laptop cooling pads I always see in stores help at all? Do they help laptop life in general even?
