I overclocked using nTune but whenever I restart my computer the clock frequencies go back to factory defaults

i8kfan wont read my gpu temps only my processor which is running at 28c not really being used. i also maxed out the fan which helps cooling a lot when your just sitting here plugged in. ntune reports gpu at 49c now on idle with my cooling pad and maxed out fan.

well i've increased the cooling level so much off this laptop just by maxing the fans and having the cooling pad i bought at bestbuy my idle temps are 46 off the gpu but... but of all, when i touch the laptop, its cool to the touch lol. beat that for cooling.

If you're running Vista, you can run the WEI index and you'll see that the settings actually keep.

Did some Google-ing, and this seems an ntune issue of not reflecting the (modified) clock.

Well, I'd believe that the temperature readings were actually the higher temperatures being reported by ATItools ntune and rivatuner. I'm gonna go with devilsnight's idea and not fiddle w/ it. I'm only getting minimal improvement within the range i'd consider "safe" at the expensive of maybe jeopardizing my laptop. And as we've seen... the 1420's layout isn't exactly ideal for OCing.

28C for your CPU? Well if you don't mind the noise and perhaps extra wear (perhaps that's unfounded) on the fan running at high speed all the time, more power to you. That is impressive. I was getting 36-38C on my 1420 with the fan running around low-medium constantly.

As for the clocks resetting themselves, I'm a bit worried about ntune's reliability. I OCed the card, ran the WEI to get those high score, then reverted back to "Factory Settings" and ran WEI again, yet it came out with the same exact scores. So not really sure what that's all about, though I hope the GPU is back to its original clocks.

If you're concerned about what you're actual clock speeds are try using some other tools to check and running other benchmarks to see what your scores are. Try ATItool and rivatuner first though.

i dont know about you guys, but i feel fine right now with the card running around 90-95 C for now,for the performance increase. a 4300 3dmark05 and the fps increase in DIRT was sweet!!! :)

What clock speeds are you set at?

Also the clockability of cards vary from card to card. I just don't feel safe pushing my card very far :\
