To my surprise, a lot of those new 13.3 in laptops coming out of Windows 7 launch don't come with DVD drives! that is another 100 dollars if you buy an external one. I think Vostro 1220 provides a lot of value for the money.

I just ordered a Vostro 1220 from the outlet.....will be a linux only machine...pretty good value, and shouldn't bog down for common things/multitasking/movies/etc

From the outlet? Considering the kind of discounts they offer on the E4300, the Vostro you got must be at a very good price!:)

Hey Z, that seem's a pretty good deal, and the vostro has a proper cpu in it.

I have been using my old vostro 1310 I sold to a friend, I like it, vostro's are good value, the only complaint I have with the 13" is the screen looking washed out....at least it's bright....had a vostro 1500 too, that was good as well
Let us know how your new "netbook" go's

I just ordered the Vostro 1220 from Dell Singapore yesterday too! Was looking for something like this, small sized and powerful

Can't wait to get my hand on it....except I was just reading the service manual and it seems it will be extremely tough to change the harddisk! (Having to take out the LCD, keyboard, palm rest)

And I was hoping I could fit in a SSD easily to make this baby fly. :(

Oh yes, just one question for those who have got your Vostros, did they give an air bay so that we can remove the dvd drive and not lug it around unnecessarily?

First, yes, you need to remove a lot of parts before your reach the hard drive if you want to change it.

If my case, I am very happy with what I got: a 7200rpm 500G hard drive, it is so fast, now I have both capacity and speed.

The DVD Writer can be easily pulled out, but they don't supply you with a dummy to put in there, the thing is, you don't really need to do that! Even with a 6 cell battery, the whole computer is very light weight, and I really appreciate the convenience of having a build-in DVD drive!

Yes probably I should be satisfied with the 7200rpm HDD.... Probably will attempt to change it 2 yrs later. :p

Guess I shouldn't get too worried about things until I really get my hands on it. Come on Dell I'm waiting! :D
