My guess on the Covet version is that considering it's a limited edition, they'll want it to be loaded with options. Right now, it would probably cost about 7-10K. So Dell is probably waiting for the old "economies of scale" to kick in and drop the price of the more expensive features so they can release the Covet in the $4K range.

    Just a guess though.

But any way you slice it, if they're not even shipping these things until late October, that only benefits you. You get to just wait it out and watch prices drop, while not sacrificing too much on the ship date. After seeing the 18" HP drop that price on the Quad Core by a ton, I expect things will start decreasing very very soon.

Also just a guess though. :)

Btw, BlueRay drive is completely out of the question for the M6400?

Another one of the questions the Dell Reps wouldnt answer with any clarity.
Honestly sometimes I wonder what they are even there for.

I literally was told "I have no idea if it will have Blue Ray".

Thats what I'm saying! I bet its even slightly higher with a x9100, as 3dmark06 doesn't fully utilize the extra cores of a quad-core.

Actually, having 2 more cores bump 3dmark06 scores by about 1000+ when comparing quad and dual core CPUs of the same speed:

    I stand corrected - my bad... :)

Although its hard to tell clock speeds on there. Is a 2.53ghz Quad faster than a 3.06ghz dual is the question....

Well, just pay attention to the number/name of the CPU. The E = Dual core version and Q = Quad core version (X = Dual core extreme version and QX = Quad core extreme version) So a Q6600 would be the quad core version of the E6600, where both run at 2.4 ghz.

In terms of gaming, I reckon the X9100 (3.06ghz dual core) will be faster than the QX9300 (2.53ghz Quad core) in most games because most games aren't optimized for multiple cores (and those that are are often maxxed at two cores). In running multiple applications, encoding and decoding, the QX9300 will probably be faster.

As I heard from Dell, they are not be able to deliver this Laptop with the RGB LED Display, because of quality problems. The RGB will be available at the end of the year. I don't understand this. They want to have a new flagship and do nearly nothing for it. Before you relase such a laptop, wouldn't it be useful to make sure, that all options (Complete care, 2nd Harddrive, blueray, RGB LED etc.) should be available at the time?

To not offer Blue-ray on the flagship laptop is nearly distressing, or?

Nevertheless, I ordered the M6400 and it will be delivered not later than 12th of November (nearly 6 weeks). By the way, I ordered it from Germany.
