    Thanks.

Well it is lighter than the W700 adapter.
    W700 + adapter ~12 lbs
    M6400 + adapter ~11 lbs
    8730W + adapter ?
M4400 + adapter ? Hopefully others will post these two.

Did you have the option to include 4GB turbo memory?

    See the thread M4400 Downclocks.

Any suspect this could be an issue with a high end M6400?
    Note the 210W M6400 adapter.

I sure hope not. I have an M6400 on order and if it has this issue it's going right back to Dell. That would put me back to square 1, what laptop to buy???

    M4400 AC adapter is 130W.
The M6400 with 210W appears over the top with +80W.

    Both the M4400 and the M6400 can have X9300, 8GB RAM, 320GB 7200rpm HD, 512MB nvidia.

Yes the M6400 can take 8GB more RAM and the 1GB FX 3700M uses 25W more than the 1700M in the M4400.

On the other hand the DDR3 memory in the M6400 uses about 30% less power than the DDR2 in the M4400.

So that leaves the 17" screen needing all that extra power.

What sort of power savings is there with the RGB LED?

That option was not available for me.

Yeah, the power supply is massive. But is actually more compact that I thought it would be when I saw that M6400 specified a 210W power supply. I wonder how hot the power supply will run. I was a little surprised to see that it was not actively cooled.

A few other differences that may account for additional power requirements:
    1. The M6400 has powered firewire port. That is around 10 watts. The M4400 has an unpowered firewire port.
    2. The M6400 uses a desktop chipset. The M4400 uses a mobile chipset.
    3. The M6400 supports 2 hard drives.

Another item for thought. There are two docks available that support the M6400. One specifically for the M6400 and one that supports the M4400 and M6400. I think (but can not confirm) that the only difference is the power supply. This COULD imply that the M6400 will run on a smaller power supply. Maybe with the video/cpu throttled.....?

Hopefully, this will not be a problem with the M6400.

From the service manual, it appears that the M4400 only has a single fan.

The M6400 has dual fans. One appears to be integrated onto the video card module.
