    so far so good
    clean install win7 ultimate 64
installed m7820 driver from official m6500 driver download, gpuz read all spec
but i think the heatsink still have problem contacting the die, idle 48~50c, but run 3d will quickly bump to 70+c and when reach 78+c core clock will throttle down from 700 to 500mhz....
while fan control well, 50+c low/60+c medium/70+c full, not bad, i expected maybe fan will lose control run 100% all the time

going home next week to use my power drill cut more metal off from heatsink:D

So, I presume you've ran some games to verify and it was all working? That's great news, thanks a lot.

I guess it's better to find one with its cooler to avoid the cooler modding.. :)

But, those cards look so similar, you'd expect them to go this one extra mile and standardize the component placement as well and thus have only one cooler type.. I mean, really. How hard would that be?

    nope
there are 4 types of vga cooler for m6400/6500
    1.fx2700 single pipe
    [IMG]
    2.fx3700m/m7740/m7820 dual pipe
    [IMG]
3.q5000m triple pipe with copper fin(but id rather call it dual pipe, the tiny pipe is for power phase only)

4.so......fx2800/3800m triple pipe with copper fin is the most powerful one:D
    [IMG]
btw original m6400 comes with cpu fan 5v 0.38a/gpu fan 5v 0.28a, while m6500 cpu/gpu both 5v 0.5a, so if u want to run cooler and dont care about noise & dust, upgrade to m6500 fan!

Nope for the game tests or for the cooler note?

Thanks for the detailed cooler analysis, was not aware there were so many of them. But, that would mean that my FX-3700M cooler is directly compatible with the M7820 one? Which is good news..
