I find the wled lcd that came with my M4600 quite grainy. Should I ask dell to replace it?

If you bought the CompleteCover service, you absolutely should ask them to replace the screen for you.

@Lippenziaga: I think I have...but I can't confirm to you at the moment...as my baby is far far away :-(

And the Illumination issue is also due to who has built it. If the worker who assembles it puts too much pressure onto one side of the screen then: Yes you will have illumintaion issues! It is still built by humans ;-). But if you notice any illumination differences you should be able to call Dell Support an they will most probably try to fix it by adjusting the mounting.

No, I bought it with with standard 3 yr warranty. Called Dell today and they required to send a photo of the screen. I did it so and they replied that they didn't see anything wrong. They told me to connect to an external display if I wanted better quality.

    Just tried that for you.

1920x1080 bitmap, full screen, solid red (255,0,0).
    -Front: nothing noticeable.
-Wide horizontal angle (170°): vertical strips of different illuminations clearly visible, but not annoying
-Wide vertical angle (80°) from the top: the bottom looks more luminous. Bottom: nothing noticeable.

    Tried with other bitmaps:
    - Regular desktop (windows, shell prompts, misc stuff): not detectable
    - Solid black: not detectable
    - Solid red, green, blue: detectable
    - Solid white: very noticeable, even with little angles (25°). At a bigger angle, two big bright vertical strips clearly appear in the middle of the screen screen.
Full screen solid white is the worst case scenario, the only one where it becomes noticeable if that matters a lot for you (like pro graphics).

As a whole, this is a wonderful screen, beautiful deep colors, very contrasted, very luminous... the best I ever had. You should never see the strips in a regular usage, unless you want to try the fullscreen white at wide angles. Note though that I'm an IT consultant and not a graphist, my needs may differ, but I think you wouldn't probably annoyed by this illumination if you weren't aware of that.
Hope it can help you !

    @Theora

Thank you, this helps me pretty much.

Now i am thinking about the m5950 pro because of the fan speed noise "problem". Will there be a fix from dell, or is it better to take the m1000?

Opting for the nVidia M1000 will not solve the fan problem, the fans will still have these annoying full stop/full speed cycles, only less often as it will output less heat.

The 5950M is about the same speed than the M2000, and even a bit faster in games. Both get a 6.9 rating in Windows.
If performance matters, go for the M2000 (CAD) or the 5950M (gaming). Choose the M1000 if you favor coolness and battery life over performance. The M2000 will stand between the M1000 and the 5950M in term of battery life as it has switchable graphics.

I am wondering if the M4600 has a MATTE finish screen and specifically I'm wondering if anyone has the 15.6" UltraSharp™ FHD(1920x1080) Anti-Glare LED-backlit with Premium Panel Guarantee display to confirm whether it has a fully matte texture or not. Thank you. :)

All available panels on the M4600 are matte, without exception.
I'm not sure about what you call "fully matte texture", but they are matte anyway.
