Completely agree - I don't notice it either.
Why don't you try program like Everest to check what model of display you have?
I don't have camera with mine, so I cannot tell...

Mhhh, WIndows has an API to control the fans as well. But will it work? I thought Dell overrides everything in the BIOS?
I am not keen to write a programme on the API to test with my Laptop as I am to unknown to the Windows-API environment, nor do I know how to find out what the appropriate fan-Speed shoud be. But for anyone interested check this out. This API offers the Method SetSpeed:

    Win32_Fan class

Don't mess around with it though...may cause a fire

can anyone tell me if it's possible to order the m4600 with only the mini 128gb ssd and then install another drive later?

I'm not sure how to best save money but I was hoping to buy the least from dell and then buy a 750gb or similar HDD and 12-16gb of ram from newegg to install later.. I'd rather not buy a HDD from dell at all if I can just get it shipped without one in the bay..

    :)

What warranties are you guys buying? do you think the 5yr basic support with 5 years of accidental coverage is worth it? what about pro support?

    Hi, everyone,
My Dell M4600 arrived yesterday. I tried it for about 2 hours, very wonderful one. It didn't make any Fan Noise. The BIOS is A09.
Here is the details of it:
    CPU : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2640M Processor (2.8GHz, 4M Cache)
    Monitor : 15.6'' FHD (1920 * 1080) Anti-glare, LED-backlit Display
    RAM : 8GB (2 * 4GB) 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM
    HDD : 750GB, 7200rmp Hard Drive
    Display Adapter : NVIDIA(R) Quadro(R) 1000M with 2GB GDDR3

I will continue posting my using experience in the future.

    Congratulation!

By the way, you sure your BIOS is A09? I just checked the DELL official site, the BIOS available for download is still A08. :(

Yes it is possible. Mind you though, from what I've read, only 9.5mm tall HDD will fit inside the M4600, the standard 12.7mm will not fit inside the HDD bay. Those drives can be harder to find and thus more expensive.

If you don't use your CD bay, you can also replace it with an extra HDD bay and have a whooping 3 hard drives inside your Precision.

No problem about the memory though, I also bought my Precision with 4GB then loaded it with an extra 8GB at a bargain price.

I am looking for a way to stop the battery from charging once it has reached a predefined level. I could do that on my thinkpad, but can't find any utility to do that on the Precision. I installed Control Point but there is no option to manually stop the charging.
This is annoying because a battery that always sits fully charged loses half of its capacity every year.

Does anyone here have an idea ?

Got word from our rep and confirmed it on the Dell site - you CAN now order the AMD FirePro Mobility card with the IPS Panel.
