    It's A08, sorry for my mistake. :eek2:
    Too busy these days, I even don't have time to use the new M4600.

    Hi, Theora,

    sadly I don't think that it will be possible softwarewise. You can only request it as a feature of an upcoming BIOS I think. But you know...BIOS and requests...it's the same issue like the fans. Won't happen most probably.
    But that is only an assumption. The thing is that charging is one of the very basic things that needs to be controlled even if the Laptop is switched off. And that makes it hard to implement. Maybe the Precision does not even have a hardware capability to do that...because I think that the Lenovo has an extra circuit built in.

    But the best thing you can do is to use the battery as much as you can. It is a money-saving habit. I am currently typing on my very old Laptop which is about 10 Years old now...but it still has its first battery. Because Li-Ions like to be shifted around and because I constantly Charge and Discharge it has over 10 Years only lost 20% of its Capacity. And still there is no need for a new Battery. I get around two hours of Battery-life...and my habit at the moment is to use it on the battery in the morning till it is discharged...then charge it till my noon-break...unplug it...and charge it once it is empty again.

    On my Dell I switched off the Express-Charge as I don't know how it affects Battery life. I think they alterate the Voltage a bit...and that does not serve the Capacity very well over time.

    Hope it helps...it's all a thing to get used to to use your battery as often as you can ;)

    Thank you for your answer, TradeItEasy.

    Ah.. BIOS requests.. Like calling for help in a desert..
    If Dell would listen, I wish we could have the following BIOS improvements :

    - proper fan management, instead of the ON/OFF policy (the most important one)
    - switchable graphics on the FirePro
    - better battery management (possibility to stop charging at some threshold)

    Then it'd be a perfect product. But then, as I said, "if Dell would listen".

    Hi,

    i want to buy a M4600, but i am not sure about the screen quality of the fullhd, because notebookcheck.com said the illumination is not to be optimal?

    So my question to the fullhd owner, how is the quality of the screen? It should be a LGD209D MC6JN_156WF1.

    What do you say about the illumination, are there problems in normal office use and in photoediting? How is contrast and black levels?

    I think the 8560w has a little better display, the AUO from 8540w too?

    THX.

    Yes, mine is LGD02D9 screen, full hd. I would say it is a rather good screen, I am satisfied with it. And I feel comfortable with the illumination, compared to the screen of my MBP. And compared to my desktop PC's SAMSUNG 23'6 inches LCD, LGD02D9 is seems a bit cold at color. I use my M4600 for daily work, I think the screen is totally OK in normal office, but not pretty sure if it fits well for photo editting which usually requires better display and color accuracy.

    Just ordered mine!

    Edit: just noticed my stats didnt make the original edit.

    1920x1080 wled
    Intel 2860qm (need this laptop to last and wanted a top tier cpu for once)
    Ati firepro 5950
    I set it up with the lowest 1333mhz ram setting and a non fips 320gb hdd as I have a 500gb 7200rpm drive and im buying 8gb of 1600mhz ram from newegg for real cheap. At this time i think 8gb will be fine for now, although with the price I have thought about doing 16gb and being done. Might also look into msata for my boot drive and use the 500gb for storage, but thats down the road a bit. All in all excited to have a quad core workstation again and also pumped about the built in numpad and slot load optical drive.

    Anyone have some gaming benchmarks, such as for BF3, Starcraft 2, and possibly Star Wars The Old Republic?

    Hi, Lippenziaga,

    I have got the Full-HD non IPS and I need to say that Dell has made a good choice on that. I would even go as far to say that it is one of the best laptop screens I have seen so far. It is very bright. Working in the office is no problem at all...and i even only run it at about 25% of its brightness. On full brightness it would be no problem to work outside in sunlight either. I think one test I read even stated that the M4600 has the brightest Display on the market at the moment. So have your sunglasses ready :cool:...

    If you want to do serious Photo-Editing though I would rather recommend you to go for the IPS as you would have better colour Accuracy and less hassle...

    @Leen.Qin and TradeItEasy

    Thank you for your answer.
    If you make in paint a picture with 1920x1080 in full color black/white/red/green or so and hit F11, do you see bad illumination? Is there a bright spot in the midle of the screen to see?

    Maybe the difference in illumination is only visible with measuring instruments?

    I think i would really spend the money for the IPS still it would be hard for me, but if i read the thread of "Corner Tint" and so on, im not sure of it is worse? The screen is not to bright, and there should be the "Crystaleffekt" like DC2 from HP.

    @TradeItEasy, you have the LGD02D9?
