Hi Gordon, maybe you could PM chrous25,he has some posts a couple of pages back and is the only person posting here with the same cpu you are interested in.

The RGBLED screen for the M4400,seems to have disappeared from the radar,it was announced a long time before the M6400 but nobody has been able to get one yet.....maybe its a supply or quality issue with the 15.4" RGB.

Mostly for archicad/autocad/3dsmax, but I also need to be able to use my ecler evo5 (it's a mixer with firewire audio/midi interface) with it, which has issues with ricoh chipset... 1394 is an important factor for me, as I refuse using an external firewire card unless it's my only option (thing has to work, since they've put it inside, right?.. :) )

hey, thanks alot for the fast feedback :)

right now its not too pressing to get the new laptop, so i've some time to wait - i'd be happy to know your thoughts after some more testing!
i've to admit that battery life is not a big concern for me, im mostly working with an attached power cord - just the place varies ..

one more question: i notice from your signature that you've got 8gb in the system. did you order directly from dell, or did you upgrade yourself later? if so, what was the price for the 8gb? i'd love 8gb, but i consider the dell option quite expensive

    Hey 1am,

That's kinda what i was expecting, the ricoh chip doesn't seem to be too good on the audio front.
My E-mu 1616m used to have issues with this exact same chipset too but somehow it doesn't exist anymore. On my last laptop i always got pops n crackles in audio (cubase / ableton etc.) but it seems fixed with the newer drivers or something...very happy with that anyway.
    But, 3x USB 2, 1x USB 2/ eSATA, 1x PCMCIA, 1x Expresscard, 1x firewire (small)....that's about it....

Just received my replacement system...all is exactly the same, thought the new screen looked a bit better but that was until i turned up brightness, oh well...can't have it all ;) Installing XP and Vista again now, they're picking up the old system tomorrow so i only have the rest of the day to get it all sorted...hadn't told me anything about the return yet and i was expecting i'd have too send it back iso it being picked up....all good though!
